I realize Ant Man is retired, so it won't work for tourneys, but this is just nasty !

Well, you would have to cheat to do it, since they don't work together.
If you make your Avengers FF, they are STILL AVENGERS, and they STILL HAVE AVENGERS TA on their dials, Avengers TA just acts like FF TA, and what is the FF TA? It is a click of heal when one dies.
The reason this will not work is as follows: you must be able to assign a feat card to a figure before the start of a game. Since Ant-man doesn't have the Fantastic Four team ability, he cannot meet the pre-requisite and thus cannot have the FF card assigned to him. Since teams for Thunderbolts are not chosen until the pieces are played on the field (when your force is already complete) there is no way to do this.
Well, Sue's defense is one lower. Allow me to post the short version of the team I mentioned when this first came about:
R Green Lantern (CJ)
LE Querl Dox, with Force Field if you're feeling feisty.
LE Ant-Man w/Thunderbolts (Defenders or JSA)
Whatever other passengers you'd like for the Querl Dox tank. Suggested choices are con artists, probability controllers, medics, and R Taskmasters for their ES/D to add to the 20 defense.
It's a variant on the Green Lantern tank, featuring a Green Lantern (Querl) with a 20 defense thanks to Ant-Man, and the ability to share that 20 defense with every other person he's carrying thanks to his Defend, so long as Ant-Man is one of his passengers. Sure, you won't be able to trick shot out, but as long as the turtle is unbroken, Querl can always get away with everyone he's carrying.

the card could be assigned to The Thing, and the thing would have the card's team ability. However, you've assigned the "Heal One Click" team ability to Ant-man thanks to Thunderbolts. THAT team ability cannot be changed, and since the two team abilities are no longer the same, they cannot work together. Ant-man cannot share his defense and Thing cannot heal a click because neither of their respective team abilities work those ways.
ok. well, I still wanted Ant Man (I got him off E-Bay when I thought of my idea), so I guess it isn't a total wash. Thanks for being kind enough to explain thoroughly the ruling for me. Min/max'ing at its best. Impressive.
Of course the day I play against this is the day I pack a Disbanded for every tournament - and I'll make sure every other player there does the same thing
Either that, or just load up on Poison + Armor Piercing...
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.

that is the beauty of heroclix, it is such a balanced system, there is a way around just about anything.
