I just reread the first Astonishing X-Men TPB (after it made the rounds to everyone I know who likes comics) and I picked up on something that Whedon might be building too.

First I read an interview (probably in wizard, but I'm not sure) where Whedon said after hes done a few other projects he wants to do (Wonder Woman movie was named) he wants to come back to the book, and he has clearly left some plot threads open for a return. Most people are focusing on the White Queen, unknown person in the shadow and Hellfire club thread, however I noticed another one that I havn't seen many people discussing. The mutant destorying the Breakworld (whatever the hell that is) within 3 years of that story thread has not gone as much press. Personally I think Whedon will have Colossus be the mutant who will destory the Breakworld (whether he does or not, I dunno), bringing up the issue of "they created the problem by keeping Colossus alive in their attempt to fix it".

If this is where Whedon and marvel go with the story I cold also see them turning this into a big "event" involving other X-books or the whole Marvel U.

Maybe. About the Colossus thing. But I don't think it'll be involving the rest of the Marvel U, or even the other X-titles.

Still, I want more resolution from that first story arc.

(And I REALLY hope this somehow gets rid of Emma. We know that Jean will be back in the comics if she's gonna be in X-Men 3; I'd REALLY like to see Emma get the boot and Jean back in her rightful place, Phoenix force or not.)

Why not? Lets say Colossus does attack the breakworld and destory it or at least do some major, major damage to it. That would most likely lead to the breakworld attacking Earth, which would seem like a large, Marvel U spanning type of story line.

I get the feeling from the 2nd arc that Emma was planning to betray them all (or at least NOW she was planning that since I know she wasn't during Morrison's run) but when the time comes she end up siding with the X-Men. At first she was using Cyclops, now she loves him. She wanted power, now she buys into the dream/school etc... While I know Jean will be back soon or later, I do hope they do something Scott and Emma instead, Scott and Jean has been done to death, lets see something new.

Not at all. Unless you mean like Thor's entire family floating on top of New York and it's not reflected in any other comic. Or Galactus just coming back a few months ago in FF, and it's not in any other comic. Or fake-Magneto-as-Xorn destroying New York and no Spidey, DD, FF, or any other local teams help.

Point being, it doesn't matter if it's big enough to span over into other comics. Things that big supposedly happen all the time, and they don't carry over. COULD it happen? Sure. I mean, look at the crazy mess that came out of Avengers Disassembled... Now, it's an entire company-wide event. But even the above storyline plays out, it'll be just as small as most other stories.

If he decides to pursue the idea of one of the X men destroying the Breakworld I don't think it would be Colossus, I think it would be Ms. Pride. It seems the Hellfore Club has its eye on her and remember what happened last time they screwed with an X mans head? (cough) Dark Phoenix (cough)

I think they are to seperate storylines that will just climax at the sametime.

Lets not forget Josh is a person who plants seeds very early and waits for these things to develop. What ever he has up his sleave, I'm sure it will not be for awhile.

I agree that something will happen with Emma... iether relizing that this is where her heart really belongs, with the X-men and young mutants (like the cuckoos) and scott... or she'll do something very cold and heartless to completely screw the X-men over... and iether way it'll involve the hellfire club (or so the story leads us to believe)... As for Jean, I sure do hope she doesn't come back, unless its done VERY WELL, meaning not some eternal love #### with scott. hopefully not another Phoenix End Song, which is what it will probably be. ... and also I kind of hope Prof. X DOESN'T return. things seem to be more interesting without him there...
