Well I finally read this story last night for the first time. Almost didn't buy it, I don't have, and didn't read the original issues, but I've been fairly against the return of Hal Jordan since I heard about it (for the record I have nothing against the character per se, but I was happy with Rayner and didn't see a need to bring yet another dead character back from the dead).
I've liked the concept of GL since I was a kid and he was one of my favorite characters in the cartoons when I was younger, but for some reason never really gravitated towards getting any of the GL books when I started getting into comics.
After Emerald Twilight I decided to, I figured, here's a fresh start and new character, it's as good a time as any to jump in.
Enjoyed most of Marz's Rayner run. The other writers were hit or miss.
I missed out on Rebirth when it came out and somehow wasn't paying attention so the new (Jordan) GL series was kind of a surprise when I discovered it in my comic book bag. I've kept up with it so far, but it has yet to grab me.
Recharge however, I'm liking quite a bit.
Back to Rebirth - I discovered the hardback TPB in my local shop last night and decided to pick it up and read it through.
I was *very* pleasantly surprised and enjoyed this story quite a bit. I like how they brought back Jordan (and more importantly the Corps) without killing off or shoving aside Kyle (and being able to see Kyle in Recharge has helped as well). I actually liked the retcon/reexplanation for what was happening with Hal/Parallax in Emerald Twilight - whereas I expected the explanation to be a simple gloss over from what I'd herad about it.
I actually liked Hal's punching Batman... I'd heard about this too, and had a different picture of it in my head based on what I'd been told about it. Batman was definitely the aggressor and Hal actually tried to get out of his way before resorting to hitting him. Plus, I'm not a fan of the Batman school of writing that portrays him as an arrogant prick, I hate *that* Batman with a passion and was glad to see someone taking him down a peg.
Anyway - I had my doubts, I'm still a little iffy on the ongoing monthly series, but as for the concept and Rebirth anyway - I'm sold.
