Right now he's nothing more than a psychotic Shazam! rip-off.
Honestly, I think the Quasar comparison is pretty dead-on. My favorite Quasar moment is when Thanos blew his hands off. And I get the feeling my favorite Sentry moment will be watching Thor beat him to a pulp.
Shazam is the wizard, Captain Marvel is the original Superman rip off (think he was made 5 years later or something like that?). I like psycho aspect personally but thats just me, I can easily see why anyone would not like it.
That was an awesome moment! I completely forgot about it.
I really like Bendis' work...except when he tries one of two things:
...
2) Stories that rely strongly on continuity...he's admitted to confusing the identity of Jessica Drew/Jones (back when pitching Alias) he brought down firey damnation from other professions for his initial use of Luke Cage, he just guessed at what villains to use in the Secret War, etc. etc.
You know, one might think that the Editor-in-Chief might be able to step in and clean up some of these issu- ... oh, nevermind.

Tons of potential, a loyal fanbase, but thus far unable to demonstrate that he was deserving of all of the hype and push he's been given.

This is twice in not only one thread, but in one day, that I agree with you. And it's twice in a row. How scary can that be ? Well, scarier if, like, it turns out JQ moderates the boards, and you're secretly Bendis, but you don't know it, because, you are an alternate identity, stuck in his psyche... or perhaps its' the other way around. Damn, that is a spooky thought.
Wow, did you just compare the Sentry to the world's biggest "burnt cracker"? That good old 'gangster' must have had a hard time growing up in the hard nock West Newbury, Massachusetts suburbs.

West Newbury, Massachusetts? That's 'Dub-New, Mass', man. Get it straight.

"I wasn't making a personal attack! I was just applying insults and idiotic generalizations to a group of people you might be a part of! You shouldn't respond to my generalizing you indirectly!"
ah, well. I still don't even see the point in having the char around. Why was he needed?
I'm thinking he's a lot like that Alien who worked as a reporter at teh Daily Bugle, had all those super powers and such, was like an homage to Superman. Turned out to be a super skrull who didn't want to be a skrull. HE wasn't a needed char either.
The Sentry needs to be handled subtly and I think should be left to Jenkins. He shouldn't be popping up in a bunch of other titles. He should be in the New Avengers and very rarely do anything even then. Jenkins should do more minis slowly fleshing him out. The whole concept of THE VOID is ment to nearly castrate him. He can't go around playing superman because of his alter ego and the fact it would get boring fast. Retro fitting him in is just plain silly and they basicly did that in the first series. Ultimatly he needs to find a way to kill himself or merge all his selves into Rob Reynolds. Feeding Galactus for a thousand years or so might be cool
