Well, as of now,the "Death of Superman" has a dismal 4.25 rating. Let's see if the X-Men can do any better.
We'll be rating the original "Dark Phoenix" storyline, from X-Men 129-138.
I think this is one of the best comic stories ever, all about heroism and responsibility and accepting moral consequences for your actions. It combined good writing, good art, in-depth characterizations and nifty action sequences. I really can't say enough good things about it.
You know, I wasn't that high on the Dark Phoenix Saga when I originally read it some 20 years ago, or so.
Now that I've had a chance to read it, I think it epitomizes all the good things that a comic story can be, without alot of the sell out things that are done today.
Here's a character that I've never heard of any X-Fan disliking, ultimately sacraficing herself (retcons be damned), for the good of the universe. The story is well developed from the very beginning, and takes the reader through an emotional rollercoaster, the likes of which very few stories can. or have since then. It's definitley one of the best stories I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and I recommend it to all those that have lived in a cave! Because if you haven't read the Dark Phoenix Saga, you just haven't read comics.
10/10

I read that story as a love story and i think it's quite touching. The characters are spot-on, the art holds up today as the more "classic" way of drawing them.. Also, this was my first encounter with wolverine who went on to become my favourite hero during my childhood reading.

I read that story a few years after it's release (It took a while to get comics published in Norway at that time), and it was the first time I really felt like this was something bigger than "just a comic" book. I moved me as a young boy in so many ways, and rereading it now brings back all these memories. In addition reading it again now makes me see stuff that I missed out on the first time.
10/10 - no doubt
