I really like the cheap GL:s in this set. Hal Jordan is so expensive, that crafting an effective lantern-tank requires a huge points-value for the game.
During my years of gaming, I have learned to love the Green Lanterns. Their TA can be tricky to use: on a good day it can be devastating for your opponent, but it can also be the main reason for getting clobbered. You can move around a large number of figures with only one action, but they are all in a tidy bunch, begging for a multiple EE or Pulse Wave.
I have tried out all figures from the GL set, and I can say that Iīm impressed. From the three pieces that were reviewed here, Tomar Re outshone all others. His huge range dominated the field, and only few of my opponents figures actually had a chance to attack someone. When someone managed to get close, it was blasted to pieces by the shorter-ranged ones that Tomar Re was ferrying around.
Unfortunately Tomar Re hasnīt got RCE, so no Trick Shootinī is possible. When attacking with his marvellous Running Shot, you have to leave a gap open, for a line of sight to his target. This also leaves him vulnerable to retaliatory attacks, and Toughness wonīt do much good. The simple solution (like you didnīt know already ) is to leave one figure, for example a HDC Trooper, behind when run-shooting, and rush to block LOS with it to Tomar Re after he has completed the attack.
My match with Katma-Tui and Arisia didnīt went so well, as I fell for the temptation to sit in place and fire away at my opponent. I completely neglected my mobility, and let my opponent do the maneuvring. My attacks didnīt find their mark, and I was devastated by vet Electro with his Pulse Wave (which he managed to unleash at both of my GL tanks...twice...and the second time with double sixes, aargh!!). Well, a valuable lesson learned, and I really look forward for my next game with the GL-girls.
My only problem with Tomar Re is that 1 click of toughness.
If he didnt have that FORCE FIELD! 10 points more for nearly a whole dial full of toughness!
It's probably why he does have one click of Toughness. Toughness clocks in about 3/, so I imagine on these characters created after Forcefield's introduction "they" might be leery of characters qualifying for the feat on 7 clicks (but don't look at Arisia /jedimindtrick)
