I recently acquired The General... I absolutely love his dial, but in trying to play him recently, he got beat into the ground by Power Girl.
I'm sure he's a viable piece, but he definitely needs some help. To those who have played him, what sort of team was it? What sort of tactics did you employ? What cards did you use?
You NEED Automatic Regeneration (does anybody even say it like that?) for him.
Also, his weakness is his low DV, so I would put a cheep fig with Defend next to him
Well, the General is a tough one.
I would start with The Society, to make it harder to Outwit his damage reducers.
AutoRegen (the cool way to say it) is a given.
As far as his defense goes, I would run Shadow Lass with him. She can share her defense and carry him. Plus, she can borrow the Society, making it harder to Outwit her Defend.
For play style, don't waste points on Protected, because you want to constantly push him. He can take it. I guess, if you can spare the points, put it on him and reserve it until he's on his Regen clix.
As far as overall team goes, play as many cheap ranged pieces as you can. If you can work in a Trick Shooter, even better. I'd reccomend IC V Bullseye w/TS, carted around by Lockjaw. That way, he can tie up while providing cover for Bullseye.
Use The General to get in the biggest gun's face, and hit him with his CCE. Then, hold him down and shoot away.
I find E & V HIVE troopers make for great teammates, cheap and effective, with the V's able to Taxi, and the E's enhancement. Plus, somewhat thematic, as in the Morrison JLA arc Queen Bee teamed up with Lex and Prometheus (and a swarm of QB's minions) to take on the JLA...
coming soon : nu52 Hercules

Haymaker helps. Like everyone else said Auto Regen is really his weapon of choice. Another thing that helps him out is special objects do to his CCE/charge combo.
I remember a while ago I was playing a friendly game and was using The General w/ autoregen. He picked up the dumpster early in the game in was unstoppable after that. Took it to Gladiator's grill single handedly.
However, his low D makes him a huge target, and if he is left unprotected from enemy outwitters then he can be easily taken out of the game in one swift turn (its happened to me...).
Either way, The General is always a big threat, and may cause you opponents to either underestimate him or overestimate him. Bottom line, he's always been one of my fave pieces.
Auto-Regen is the obvious choice, but not so obvious is a cheap PC character and a cheap medic.
With his abysmal defense, medics will have no problem healing him. You want a cheap PC character available to re-roll a poor Auto-Regen roll (or the action he takes to regen after an Auto-Regen!).
Cheap TK would not be a bad idea either. A 3-D Office Desk might come in handy (if you use Shadow Lass or CT R Invisible Girl), as would the dumpster/generator.
1st suggestion: Bring out The General for scenario play! I've used him a bit for 'odder' events and he's done nicely.
2nd suggestion: FEATS! I suggest three: The Society (50% chance of being outwit-proof for a round) Auto-Regeneration for maximum annoyance, and Lazarus Pit (it's Shaggy-Man thematic, and it lets you really cut loose with him!)
3rd suggestion: I've played him teamed with a Nanobot-infested Ultra-Humanite. The White Wonder provides TK to move him into first strike-territory, and with outwit and mobility, the Ultra-Humanite stands a chance of staying alive long enough for the General to come back out of the Lazarus pit!
I've had the best luck with The General on those occasions that I've played him with V Doctor Doom. This has been a killer duo to be the foundation of a 600+ force on multiple occasions.
Using Doom actually mitigates The General's low defence somewhat, because people tend to focus their attacks on Doom. If these hit, Mastermind them to The General, who can take a lot of damage (especially with Auto Regen) and unlike many Mastermind sponges, packs a serious punch on the turns that Doom clears.
The General is not the primary threat of this kind of force (had to beat the majesty that is veteran Doom!) but he's actually worth it as a support piece for his points.

I've played that team
plus in bigger games toss lazarus pit on him...ive done it a few times and with the auto regen thats a fig that NEVER dies
