I'm reading the last FF, where Ben Grimm comes to Paris, where I currently live. And I'm really pissed off.

First, I'd like an author to be able to remember a few pages before, so apart from the "french" part I feel offended as a reader when I read on page 9 that "La Lumière Bleue" prowls the Louvre at night, and then on page 15 see Ben asking the Phantôme (another character) why he prowls the Louvre at night. In other words, the author, or someone who was involved in this comics, + the editoring staff, was so involved in that story that he didn't even re-read what was written !

Then, there are all the spelling mistakes. Come on, I prefer the < > brackets with english text and a "translated from french" legend rather than words that really don't mean anything. If they don't have french people around them let them just mail to me and I'll gladly translate ! But seriously, that is really, really badly translated most of the time.

But the worst part is : a character (even under disguise) with a beret in Paris. I mean, there must be less parisians with berets in 2007 than americans with JR texan hats in Boston, and none of them under 65 year old. Berets were a fad back in the forties, and are a distinctive sign of the (older generation) Basque, who are in a very small region of France (and Spain).

But the thing that really offended me is that the same guy also had a Hitler mustache. And that is really too much. Because that was never a fad in France, and might have been one in Austria at the time but really isn't worn anywhere in Europe by any sane people. Really, the only people that I ever saw wearing that were Hitler in documents, Charlie Chaplin in his movies, and J. Jonah Jameson who has always been seen as a little Hitler. So seeing a character masquerading as a "typical frenchman" with a beret and a Hitler mustache is really a bit too much for me. I think Germans would be maybe even more concerned by such a pictural because it would tend to assimilate modern germans with nazis, but really I can't in hell understand how a frenchman could be thus depicted.

But above all, let's be serious : that was a really, really lame story, and I feel taken for a fool because I read the story hoping it would have the usual standards of Civil War, and really tell us more about the Fantastic Four's evolution, and I just read a bunch of ####.

And now I go back to see who wrote the story, and I'm astonished because it's none other than J. M. Straczynski (see, I looked your name up to write it correctly mister S.) !! And I've been a huge fan of his work.

But even as a "fun", "second degree" digression from the dark tone of the Civil War series... this is really too bad as a story and as a representation of anything french for me to condone.
