In mid-battle, a hungry Galactus comes down and, since the heroes are oh so busy fighting amongst themselves, he chows down on Earth. Only two people survive... Cap and Ironman.
Whose side won, didn't matter as much to me as putting more of a force behind the whole arc. I thought we were going to get more of a reveal that Stamford was more than just an accident. I thought it would have been great to see Mrs. Sharpe (Stamford Mom) do a great Scooby-Doo reveal at the end of the issue to truly be Mephisto. And that no man (even Tony Stark) can resist his temptations.
Tony Stark IS Mephisto.
Actually, isn't Meph suppose to be playing a big role in things sometime this year?
Another ending they could've gone with would be a shocking one. Where Tony comes out of the closet, admits he is in fact in love with Steve. Steve then reminds him that he, Steve, was in the army and knows full well the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy. And in the final panel, you see them lying next to each other in a bed, each smoking a cigarette and both are obviously naked under those sheets. Now, wouldn't that have been a shocker?
Wanda wakes up (a second time), and the whole run of 616 from House of M forward is wiped from continuity. (my personal favorite). I start buying Marvel comics again and all is right with the world...

Cap is set free after it is found that Iron Man set up the whole Stamford incident along with the SHIELD director, only it's not Iron Man. They find Wanda in the armor, babbling incoherently "there's no place like home"...
epilogue:
Joey Q gets his mutant powers taken away suddenly, and the real Tony Stark is found half starved, locked in a disused lavatory in a Quinjet in Hank Pym's pocket.

The shortest distance between two points is the gap between the minimum requirement and not-good-enough.
Both sides duke it out and Cap's side wins the battle but and Cap is taken prisoner which basically crushes the anti-reg sides moral.
The government offers a deal which essentially gives them the option to register and all charges will be waved.
Most of the anti-reg give in save for the ones who were screwed over during Civil War who form the Secret Avengers. Cap refuses to register and chooses to stand trial for his actions.
Basically allows Marvel's plans to go ahead as planned but now Cap doesn't seem like such a big giant wuss.
