Er.. This seems to be a pretty normal American misperception, but contrary to your beliefs, Great Britain was a constitutional monarchy at the time of the American revolution, just as it is today!
It was NOT a despotic monarchy ruled by an all-mighty king, but a fully functioning parliamentary democracy with a monarchy serving a mainly ceremonial position, just as it is today.
Also, isn't there something in the American constitution about "cruel and unusual punishment"? What exactly would banishing American citizens to an alien dimmension and imprisoning them there count as?
no i do not think banishing them an alien dimension is anymore cruel then being stuck in a tent prison in the west Texas desert.
the prison did not seem paticularly cruel to its residents.
one big issue with supers is the great deal of difficulty imprisoning them somewhere where they cannot escape.
"cruel and unusual punishment" only counts if the inmates are being treated in a manner harsher then is absolutely needed to keep them locked up.
now if the prisoners never get there due process then they have a fair gripe on those grounds.
as for the monarchy issue , yes I know that but the rebels did feel that they were being treated without the rights they were due and decided that violence was there only choice.
Now were they wrong in this choice even though it turned out good for the us in the end? maybe maybe not.
had the rebels failed they would have been executed, and rightly so.
the main issue I have with caps choice is simply that he has always said he stands for the rights of the people , and for democracy.
then decides to use violence when democracy does not go his way.

Well, since the colonies had no representation in Parliament, but were being taxed due to said Parliament, it was the whole "taxation without representation" thing that got people riled up.

I'd agree with that completely, actually.

Another misconception of the American Revolution is that they founding fathers wanted a Democracy or Democratic Republic. They didn't. They wanted a Rebublic like group ruled by the "smart" people, hence the electoral college and how Voting didn't mean jack for a long time.
To go across back to britain for a decent quote.
