The doing the laundry thing might be sexist, but i doubt it really entered their minds, because if so, that was the dumbest idea ever. I could totally see Mary Jane washing is spidersuit though, as it's not something you could take down to the dry cleaners and it'd be a way to show she supports his crime fighting. But eh, then again maybe they did mean to do it that way and are just complete idiots. It can't be to drum up sales considerings its a limited edition statue that would have sold just as well as a Mary Jane statue that's in a skimpy outfit modeling. Besides which... is it just always sexist whenever something is made with women in a domestic pose. I mean definitly nobody would call Aunt May doing the same thing sexist.
Though I imagine some people would complain if she was wearing the same thing Mary Jane is in that statue. Really it's that stuff that bugs me and not so much that she's doing the laundry just because she really isn't anything but a model and therefore i could see them trying to come up with a situtation away from that, that would also indicate that she's Mary Jane, which is generally impossible outside something that would point to spiderman or Peter Parker. I think it was an oversite more then a "Lets see how sexist we can be".
The whole deleting complaining posts from their message board thing is a load of #### though... specially a lot of the creepy ones they kept in there.
Eh you know what screw it, considering who's involved with that company it wouldn't surprise me if that was what they were trying to do.
Thank you for that mental image.
I'm not entirely sure it was intentional, but cleaning Peter's clothes seems kinda obvious to me. I'm sure she does probably clean it when she's cleaning her own clothes, though I'd guess she would use a washing machine the same way Peter used to. She also wouldn't be bending over and wearing a thong while cleaning. I think it's a combination of what she's dressed in and what she's doing that's the problem.
I'm sure the 1000 owners of this statue are very happy with it. Mostly anyway. I'm not familiar with the company making it, but that message deleting does sound pretty sleazy. Sorta sounds like they have that kinda reputation from what you're saying though. Have they done stuff like this before?

Anyone happen to hear about the new Mary Jane Watson figure that's coming out? Apparently, there is some controversy over what she's wearing and what she's doing. She's wearing a tight shirt showing clevage, and her thong straps are showing from her jeans, as she's handwashing Spidey's costume. I'm not too sure what the controversy is about, anyone know?

Reputation for making overly sexist statues... depends on your definiton. Generally it's just more of the, looks improbably even for the character stuff like their white queen statue.
Me i'd be surprised either of them would wear a washing machine consiedring they live in NY, didn't think many NY places had their own washers and driers. Reminds me of the annoying moment in civil war where mary jane goes out for something and her "Secret" disguise is to just show more clevage so nobody looks at her face.

Ah, so they made that statue, huh? Well, it's all coming together now.
And I was mostly going off a few old Spider-Man comics where Peter would use the laundry room in his apartment or the laundry mat and hide his costume with a pile of clothes. I only remember that because of a great scene where a single Peter gets rejected by a girl because he was looking a little too dirty. I wonder if he gets Wong to do his laundry for him now though. I hope that outfit isn't mandatory for anyone doing his laundry, now there's a disturbing image

Ah, guess i just blank out laundry room scenes in comics. For the record both statues are part of a line they're all based on Adam Hughes drawings.
