Howdy-
I was just reading the new LOSH rulebook, and came across a bit of confusing wordplay in an example, specifically under the new 'Theme Team' rules. On page 6, the second 'benefit' listed that a theme team can take advantage of is listed as:
"Themed teams may cancel one target battlefield condition during a game..." (bold emphasis mine).
But in the example on the top of page 7, it says "he can choose one target battlefield condition that his characters can ignore during the game..." (again, bold emphasis mine)
Now, seeing that there is a big difference between 'ignore' and 'cancel' (I would assume a cancelled BFC would be removed from play completely and both players would be unaffected by it, as opposed to a BFC which is 'ignored' by one player, yet still in play as far as the other player goes), I would go by the wording of the actual rule as opposed to a (possibly) mis-chosen word in an example.
Also (hypothetically speaking), IF the theme team 'ignored' (as opposed to cancelled) a target BFC, the opponent could still get use out of their (say) 'Ordinary Day', right? The theme team plays Atlantis Rising, the opponent plays Ordinary Day, the themers 'ignore' Ordinary Day, but it is still in effect for the opponent, etc... etc...
So, I guess my question is:
Does a theme team get the bonus of cancelling or ignoring a target BFC? And can that cancelled / ignored BFC be used again in another round, or was it 'invalidated' by its 'use' this round?
Ignore = NOT THERE...ISNT happening...cant be used
The problem come from if you "cancel" it's basically not in the game. If you "ignore" a BFC it's in effect sometimes for you and sometimes for your opponent. basically every BFC is having to be FAQed to explain how it will work when 1 person "ignores" it while another doesn't
Someone had a post/thread on the boards here that referenced a posting by nbperp on the WizKids forum that pretty much answers your question.
The main thing to take from it was the "cancel" text was incorrect, and "ignore" is the correct way that a theme team will interact with your opponent's BFC.
Keep in mind, this may work to your advantage, and it may not. For example, if your opponent plays TK Strain, you can move a character more than 6 squares with no ill effect. Your opponent cannot. Which is a good thing.
But, if he plays...say...Protect the Innoncent... You may not remove bystander tokens but your opponent can. Which could cut down/away your pog-shield.
I'd look up the post by nbperp. It had all the constructed format BFC's listed with their interpretations under the "ignore" ruling.
Using Atlantis Rising as an example, if you chose to ignore it and your opponent could not or did not, think of it as your guys brought scuba gear and the other guys did not
It only gets stupid with stuff like debris and damage control
Sooo when Disbanded is in play...does that mean that Power Cosmic still doesnt take pushing damge.......
cause that would be WRONG,
Depends
If you have a theme team of power cosmic then you can choose to ignore the BFC
Remember TA is not a keyword
Themes are ENTIRELY based on keywords.
The rules are:
Themed Teams
When all characters on a force share a single common keyword among the keywords listed on their character cards and the force consists of at least three or more characters and one character for each 100 points (or fraction thereof) in the build total, the force is a themed team. Themed teams receive multiple benefits:
• Themed teams receive a bonus to the roll to determine who will be the first player equal to the number of characters on the force.
• Themed teams may cancel one target battlefield condition during a game
(this choice is made when battlefield conditions are revealed).
• For each three characters on a themed team, a themed team may use
Probability Control once during the game; place an action token on the
character using Probability Control. The token may not be placed on a
character currently taking an action, or a character that already has two action tokens.
So how many power cosmics will fit into this? If you play a 1000 point game and use 'heralds" as your key word you need 10 characters with the keyword.
Seeing as the average cost is not far from 200, you CANNOT make a heralds theme team with all the benefits therein
So, since there is no way to ignore it, PC is still right royally shafted by disbanded
