I was rereading Countdown #17 and something kept bothering me about it when I realized what it was:
In the comis there are 52 Monitors....... wouldn't there also be 52 Anti-monitors?
Where are they?
just curious....
Yes, but you're a surrealist! I'm a normal guy!
Gil Zoo Crew or bust!

I appears that there is only one, single anti-matter universe. ence just the one Anti-Monitor.
The latest issue seems to indicate that there used to be only one Monitor, who split himself up in 52 parts.
Yoda of Borg, we are: Futile, resistance is. Assimilate you, we will.
Actually, if you check out certain pages, there have been 70-something Monitors together in a single room at one time. But you're not supposed to notice that.

That's the secret behind the next weekly series. It's called "76".

There was obviously a mirror or two in that room, silly!
Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.
It was painfully obvious that there was more then 52 Monitors in some of those scenes. I have to think/hope they did that on purpose. Perhaps the 52 Monitors are dividing into even more Monitors or something--like once things start to come apart you can't stop the process from continuing. What if the 51 non-New Earths are spitting out their own duplicates. Maybe the Final Crisis is the multiverse unraveling and weakening the whole structure. That seems to be implied by the way the Monitors want to stop travel between the 52.
I don't know about Monarch becoming the AntiMonitor but I have to respond to this:

Well it seems to be in Flux right now. The real old Legion of Superheroes has made an occasional appearance... including that particular Starboy. Yeah, OA is only one at this point but if the Monitors have split up who's to say the Antimatter universe has not split up as well... and they just haven't mentioned it....
