I was actually excited at the hopes being able to run my first pre-release, and now this. I feel like ever since I became a judge, Organized Play has just become a nightmare. I was looking forward to running all sorts of special events at all sorts of build totals. Now we're probably going to be playing tons of 300 point games.
I'm betting we get some spread that looks like this:
2 Sealed
3 Constructed
4 Floor
2 Unrestricted
*sigh* Just let us house rule...
In general you're likely spot-on, save for the build totals. We've been told that the Crisis events will involve some higher point builds, so at least on that score I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in mind.
ngn is a huge loss...but pre-releases won't be huge.....they're really not worth it after the loss of the promo figs and factory set prizes....I'd much rather wait 3 weeks that pay for over inflated priced boosters that I'd buy anyways
That brings up an issue I meant to mention in my earliest post in this thread: Wizkids should definitely look into and lean hard on any venues that did anything to make the buy-in cost for a pre-release higher than the cost of two boosters, regardless of their reasons. Fortunately I haven't run into that where I've played, but I know there were several complaints about it happening elsewhere.
No one said they weren't going to do a new guy night or a Prerealise they just said that at this moment they were looking at the information they had gotten to see if it is worth it I suppose, Also they make prize support for free, we do not have to pay to play, So honestly I do not care if its a 11 week plan or not, I am just happy they keep supporting this game I enjoy so much and you all should be happy too, rather then them just putting the product out and leaving it like that.
NGN nights and Prereleases have been hit or miss for the last couple of years ever since they shook the system up and opened the opportunity for smaller "in house" prereleases to all local participating venues.
My guess is the reason we wont have a NGN LE figure is because DC/Warner Bros are much harder to deal with, more expensive and a much tighter on their licensing.
Whatever the 11 week "ROBUST" prize support is gonna be, dont be disappointed to see a bunch of "LE" feats with no art on them. Probably fined tuned from all the ideas we sent in for Monsters/Mutations.
Either way, anything that players assume and or look forward to that is passed up during a new release is sure to be sorely missed and is definitely a loss when it comes marketing and exposing the game to more potential players for us, and business for them.
Let's face it. NGN was a joke and most people know it. I totally understand why they're getting rid of it.
Pre-Releases (at least for Crisis) being gone stings a bit but most people couldn't even make it to one. Out of our regular players (usually anywhere from 6 - 10) we'd be lucky if more than 2 of us could make it to a Pre-Release. A lot of our players are young kids (High school) and couldn't make it anyway. It's a big blow for a select few people (especially for venues that always managed to score the Pre-Release) but is it REALLY that big of a loss for the overall Clix community?
The only real loss to me is that we won't get that week-early rush of stats for figures like we usually do. But it seems like at least in regards to Crisis, they're dealing with that by giving us stats and previews at a much faster rate.

So here I go adding to Kaitouace's sig again, but he hit the nail on the head. FOOM is very playable.
I never cared much about pre-releases, and NGN never really drew that many new guys to our venue anyway. The only thing I don't like about this is the 11-week "play how we tell you to" thing for this set. We've had enough of not being able to play the types of tournaments that we want to.
11 weeks of dictated play? Bummer. A month long "new-set kickoff" event series is cool, but almost three months!? When are we going to get a chance to actually play with the new set? Extra bummer for those judges that like to run scenarios to make the game interesting.
I'd almost vote for my venue to NOT participate in the events, and just run a regular 3 months of tournaments. There's not a lot of incentive for judges to be creative or try to make the game interesting anymore.
This is What I Want(ed, circa GSX/2010): Nextwave ATA: 100 pts. may use all Team Abilities as long as force is only Nextwave keyword.
"Let's charge them 12 bucks a booster, and not give them any prizes, or free stuff. Next we will get rid of the buy it by the brick program. pretty soon we'll sell 6 figures for 18 bucks and laugh at those fools as they buy 2 cases trying to get the uber rare jimmy olson as superman figure that we never even made" HA hA HA HA AHA HA HAAHA H AHAHAA

why not run 2 seperate tourneys one on Monday and the other on friday?
One for regular games, the other for organized play.
I don't know. I have had real good luch with NGN. I would say about half my current player base is from people who started at a NGN.
I will miss both. The M&M pre-release was the first I attended and had a blast, NGN always does well at my venue plus the NGN figures tend to be some of the best figures from the set.(Notable exceptions being Wonder Woman and Jessica Drew) It's nice when almost everyone can get one of the best peices a set offers just for bringing someone with them to the event.
Who is the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?

Pawsie - you're new - first off - WELCOME!
That being said, most of us that have been playing the game a while (I started in January of '03) have come to see WK saying they're "looking into it" as a proverbial kick in the mouth. You see, we have been bitten by WK before. I'd LOVE to say that they will increase the number of freebies they hand out, but that's simply not the case.
Also, when you have to buy boosters to play, prize support isn't free - granted, it takes a little out of WK's hand (producing 6 figs instead of 5), but if you don't buy, you don't play. You don't play, you don't get a prize.
Look at it as a sort of "Hobby Pavlovian Response" - we see a press release from WK, and most of us cover our family jewels, for fear of getting a nerf bat to them.

ANd DOn't know how you can Say DC got the Shaft. Have you seen some of the figures? they are Hands DOWN Better than Marvel. If anything Marvel Has gotten the Shaft in Dial Design!
I guess we're crazy in Iowa. Our judge took all the New Guy Night stuff and threw it in a box. Every time a new player showed up legitimately joining us for the first time, he'd pull it out and tell them to help themselves. We've never treated New Guy Night as an actual event, but rather a pile of supplies to give new players the ability to play before they sink in the first $80 brick.
Typically, those NGN figures have been more mainstream characters, so even players not extremely well versed in comics had an interest in them, enough so to build a small team and test the game out.
Then again, from Avengers on, I've started my own box of commons that lack any trade value whatsoever, and just hand them out to anyone new, anyone who didn't bring a team that week, or any of the youth who play who don't already have full sets of the common runs. What the heck else was I going to do with 23 Ultimate Caps?

I believe he's saying it because DC has had 2 pre-releases to Marvel's 7 and both times we've gotten a "the pre-release is cancelled while we re-evaluate how we're going to do them" it's been a DC set.
I'm not supporting the anti-DC conspiracy, I'm just saying DC has bad luck when it comes to WK's timing.
