I just got back from a DC tournament and something happened which surprised me. A player used perplex from Harley Quinn to up the attack value on his medic. I always have thought that this wasn't allowed. I always assumed the support "attack" had to be a completely unmodified roll. When I brought this up the judge said that even if that were the case the player could have just dropped the recipient's defense value. Could someone clarify this for me?
You and the judge are correct. Support cannot be modified, but the Defense value of the target can be Perplexed, just like with RCE or CCE. By Perplexing the Defense down by 1, you accomplish the same effect as Perplexing the Attack up by 1.
But let me give a history on this... it used to be not allowed/allowed/not allowed/allowed...
Now, it is 'Not allowed' again...
The Support action cannot be modified in any way.
This means that:
1) The Support figure cannot have his Attack value Perplexed.
2) The target figure cannot have his Defense value Perplexed.
3) No team abilities will help.
This is a wholly unmodified roll. Straight Attack versus straight Defense.
thanks go out to you too Tsannik. I frequent these boards about 5 or 6 times a day and I thought that ruling sounded like the one currently being used. I'll be sure to pass this along to our local judge. He seems like he's the type of guy who does a great job of staying on top of things.
