Just in case this hasn't already been posted, I thought this needed to be said for those that don't know. Looks like Steve Gerber, the amazing comics writer behind Howard the Duck, Man-Thing, Omega, and a ton of other great stuff, has passed away. This is a huge bummer.
If you haven't read anything he wrote, please take this opportunity to have a look in honor of one of the greats.

Though I am not HUGELY familiar with his work, any creator who dies is a tragedy. There is a loss to the community as a whole when someone with something to say is silenced. Also, I don't feel threads like this should fall into obscurity without so much as another post.

I enjoyed his run on the Man Thing, wasn't that excited about Howard the Duck that much. Still, we lost an amazing talent who could have taught Bendis and Millar tons about storytelling. A tragic loss.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
I loved Howard the Duck since I read an issue with the character in it. Steve Gerber was a writer ahead of his time. His creations have definitely left his mark on the Marvel Universe, though perhaps not to the casual observer. Gerber's work brought humor, social commentary, and turned comics into a medium for social introspection. And, thanks to his collaborations with Gene Colan, we have the "other" red-headed bombshell in the MU, Beverly Switzler. In the end, his greatest contribution was the struggle that Gerber led against Marvel in order to secure rights for the artists and writers who invented the magic upon which the company capitalized. It's enough for me to know that he earned the respect of people like Jack Kirby (see Destroyer Duck) and Frank Miller.
RIP, Steve Gerber. I hope that you have all of the peace and tranquility that you ever wanted.
