The Return of 'Pryme's Wildstorm U Comics (03/05/08)... MAJOR SPOILERS
Okay all, well, after a serious round of cancellations on the WSU front, I decided to stop reviewing what was coming out every week, but lo and behold, Wildstorm has got something BIG up their sleeve and so I'm back to talk about it...
A Little Catch-Up
So, when I last left off, there was talk about an impending Armageddon coming, whereby Void (of Wildcats fame) was taking various heroes to the future to show them the aftermath of it all, and get them to try to figure out what caused it and how to stop it.
First up was Midnighter (if you don't know who Midnighter is, then I have to ask... why are you reading this?!?!) who basically took away the fact that The Authority needed to stay even more vigilant than ever, because all it takes is one failure on their part to end the world. Also, he finds out that part of this is because Post Humans all went to war with each other.
Next up to bat was Maximum Man from Welcome to Tranquility. Maximum Man learned that not everyone died in the Armageddon. Some people were taken somewhere else "Rapture" style. The Town of Tranquility had decided t transport itself to a safer dimension, and no one would ever remember them. Problem... when he came back, Maximum Man didn't remember what he was supposed to have learned.
Then it was Colonel Dane from Wetworks. Dane learns that all of this has something to do with the Night Tribes (Werewolves and Vampires) getting help in their war by some kind of demonic influence. Dane is determined to fight harder. Still no solid answers though.
Caitlin Fairchild comes back with a new appreciation for her friends, and that's about all. Wow. Gen13 kids are selfish, I guess.
More about Post Human development is figured out by Stormwatch PHD's John Doran, who learns that prior to the war between them, new Post Humans were showing up in droves.
And, finally, Void sent Nemesis, perennial bad girl of the Wildcats books, and she's the one that figures it all out with the help of Backlash II from the future. Of course, like any good mystery, WE don't know yet. And that leads us to...
Revelations.
Nemesis, in order to gather the necessary intel to try to stop the end of the world, enlists the help of Savant (Majestic and Zealot's daughter who thinks she's Zealot's sister... for the true Coda "Bobby Vinton" effect) and Backlash II (formerly Jet, the daughter of the ultimate in bastard heroes, Backlash), and they proceed to piss of the entire Wildstorm U by getting the info.
First up, why not try something easy like... breaking into The Carrier and fighting The Authority. After one hell of a throw-down, the girls manage to get the info they need from The Carrier's database and get away clean. The info? Well, it seems that after WWII a group of Post Humans called The Paladins just disappeared. This is confirmed over in Authority Prime mini series when Midnighter and Apollo find out that they may just be clones of the original Paladins, including the reveal that Midnighter may be a clone of "The Midnight Rider" who was a Post Human Biker Chick.
Next, it's on to Tranquility to try to track down an information they can find on the Paladins from those who would remember them best. Maximum Man tells them the story of what happened to The Paladins. Apparently, they were all sent to fight in Japan, and then the US Government dropped the big one on them. Not too cool.
By this time, Backlash's dad, who's been working for IO (kinda like a Wildstorm S.H.I.E.L.D.) for years, is on to the girls. So, he makes contact and they set up a meeting where they teleport him to an undisclosed location against his will, steal his bionic leg which IO uses to track him) gives it to Savant and let her teleport all over the world to confuse IO (the scene where she's New Orleans getting her beads from the crowd while a bionic leg is slung over her shoulder is a classic) and Nemesis breaks into IO headquarters ad finds out that all of this has something to do with an operation called "Number of the Beast." She gets away clean, finding out that Henry Bendix was involved, only to meet up with two very pissed off Wildcats in Grifter and Zealot.
A new book featuring a couple of older characters, New Dynamix begins by featuring Love Rocket (new character) in her guise as a DJ that is asking where all of the Post Humans have gone. We find out that Omni (now calling himself Black Halo) moved to Arizona and is living with Greymalkin, who never leaves his room. He is coaxed back into action by a man holding a boy hostage with a laser gun and screaming to talk to him. They apparently know each other, and Black Halo suits up after Sword (another old-school WSU character) kills the hostage taker, releasing some kind of fluid on the kid that appears to have mutated him somehow. I have a feeling this is where are all the new Post Humans are gonna come from that was talked about in Armageddon. That also syncs up with the final issue of Deathblow where Deathblow releases some kind of chemical bomb that creates Gen-Actives as well.
Now, lets cleanse the palate for the week with some good old Wildstorm violence...
In 1984, G.I. Joe #21 by Marvel Comics, introduced the idea of a comic with no dialog. While this is not one of those, it's close. Because the entire book is dedicated to Midnighter and Assassin 8 beating the #### out of each other. Long story short, Midnighter loses, Assassin 8 gets his radio-telepathy device, calls for a door dressed as Midnighter, and heads for The Carrier to take on The Authority.
And that's your Wildstorm fix for this week. I'll get back next week to update everyone on the goings on of (ugh...) "Earth-50" and keep you abreast of how that pesky End-of-the-World thing is coming along. I'll also try to play catch-up as best as I can when need be. There are BIG things happening, and if you're not reading Wildstorm Universe stuff...
START!

Actually, Marvel introduced that idea back in the 60's. One story of "Nick Fury, Agent of Shield" had no dialog. The most famous part of that was not the issue itself, but the fact that the guy in charge of paying the workers at Marvel decided to not pay the artist, as Marvel paid per page with dialouge. The artist got upset and the guy who pays people finally agreed to pay up when the artist started dangling said paying person by his feet, out the window.

I did not know that.
