Meh. OMD was just atrocious, but the best I can say about BND is that while not really bad, there is also nothing particularly good or exciting about it. It's just some of the blandest Spider-Man stories I have ever read.
Did you happen to read the Howard Mackie era? It was like a contest to see how many Spider-Man clichés could be fit into a single run making it completely unremarkable.
I agree that BND is getting more credit then it deserves because it can only be compared to some of the worst Spider-Man stories ever. But going from utter #### to awesome is tough to do, and I think they might get there given enough time.
OMD was complete carp! BND is some good Spider-Man stories from the 1970's. Runs out of webfluid (boring). Everyone thinks he's a badguy(done to death). Perhaps there are no more new Spider-Man stories. I suppose they could give him some cool extra powers. Maybe he makes his own webfliud from glands. Perhaps he could step up and stop being a whiney little Aunt May's boy. Sorry have to stop. I am so disapointed. If I saw Joey Q I would spit in his face.
One More Day sucked! It was awful! It's on par with the Clone Sage [well, near the end]. I even made a thread that compared the two!
So Brand New Day comes. Everyone seems to hate it too. Sooooo I decided to pick it up. And you know what....story-wise it wasn't that bad. It has some promising features. Although, I don't know what all the hoop-lah was about teh Bugle buyout, I mean Puma once bought it out. And now it's back wtih JJ.
Anyways, I read it with an open mind, and like I said it was promising. I felt like it was how I felt about Ben Reilly as Spider-Man. I hate the diea, and wanted the status quo. However, the stories with Ben Reilly weren't terrible. The problem was the baggage. With the context of how they got to Ben Reilly, it made it feel awkward, and there was still a sense of hatred for those stories. I felt the same with BND. I think it's beneficial in teh long run, however the nagging baggage of Peter making a deal with the devil really brings it down.
I cheered when the status quo weas brought back to Peter after teh Clone Saga debacle. I think I would cheer when Peter somehow beats teh devil or something. I don't mind single Peter, but the aftertaste of hwo it ended really sours my enjoyment of BND.
I'll still read BND, and check it out for at least a few months [at least until I read the stories from all 4 writers] before I drop the book. Part of me wants to liek this book, part of me does like this book, but a par tof me hates how the status quo was reached.
How about everyone who ACTUALLY read it? If you ignore the baggage, it's not too bad, right? I mean, there were worse continuity problems with other heroes in the past, right? So we can forgive OMD right? Well.....I'm not sure I'll forgive OMD, but....
OMD did not suck, it was good. Yes I don't agree with what Quesada did, he shouldn't have altered reality. But since he has, there is nothing we can do about it; just accept it. But since OMD was done, it was done well and I liked it. Now with Brand New Day, that has been really good since it started, I am enjoying it! Spiderman is still doing well, and I will stick with it. Don't be so critical. Though Quesada should reverse this whole incident and restore things back the way they were. His view that superheroes shouldn't be married is ridiculous; they can be. But oh well, he's the editor in chief... Though it was left open to change in the future, if at all possible.

You seem to be contradicting your own argument. You pointed out the basic flaw of the story, i.e. that Spidey's back was broken as a character in order to get to an unnatural place in his development. Spidey as a character is a symbol of personal responsibility, something that's at the core of his decision to become Spider-man. That defining characteristic is suddenly completely absent from the Spider-man we see in OMD, who cannot accept responsibility for his own actions and makes a deal with the devil so that he doesn't have to. "With great power comes great responsibility?" Not on Quesada's watch it doesn't. Just because he's the editor in Chief doesn't mean we should just accept something that goes against everything the character stands for.

The brand new day stories have been fairly entertaining so far...
That being said, they didn't have to do to Spidey what they did to get these stories told. In fact, they could have been BETTER if continuity hadn't been dissolved along with his marriage.

Well, I'm back to this thread. I've been keeping up with all the stories thus far in BND. And to be honest, I mildly enjoyed it. However, the looming problems of the altered status quo that does nothing new to the franchise otehr than to invoke nostalgia of 70s Spider-Man or introduce new readers to what 70s Spider-Man is like does nothing to add to the franchise.
I think BND should have been Untold Tales of Spider-Man circa 1970s. Then it'll be a lot better.
I run HeroClix tournaments at Shuffle and Cut in La Habra, California. The format of each tournament will be posted here.
the whole point to marvel adventures spidermsn, and ultimate spiderman was to tell stories of an unmarried spiderman, and the sold good. I LOVE a married spiderman, it shows where the character can evolve to it doesnt make him borring or less relatable to teens, it's what they have to look forward to, eccept bing married to a super model and swinging through the city on webs.....uh anyway, if you read any of quesada's lame @$$ attempts to justify this folly he kind of slaps his own wife in the face. he says [sic]"my life before i was married was simply a lot more entertaining" so i hate what they have done to spiderman, and i agree with the spitting in the face thing.
I said it once, and I'll say it again......the one thing that One More Day taught me is that if you can't handle life...make a deal with the devil and live a lie!!!
I refuse to read Brand New Day because in my eyes IT'S NOT REAL!!! Spidey is living a lie and is fine with it. He gave up a life with the woman who was at his side for everything and an unborn child so that he could change life....gosh I wish we could ALL erase our mistakes and live a lie too!
The bad guy won, Spider-Man sold out and dropped his hero card off at the morgue. I have utter disgust for Quesada.
Plus I am tired of reading "loser Peter Parker" stories now that everyone and their mom tries to do them with every hero......
I'm going to hit him really, really hard with a big green boxing glove............ I'm kidding. - Hal Jordan
I'm still convinced that Marvel has an ace up their sleeve, and will be getting themselves out of this situation with whatever it was that Mary Jane whispered into Mephisto's ear before the deal was made.
