You double check the address that you wrote down.
“This can’t be the place…” You think to yourself.
But the address on the card matches the one on the run down, boarded up, dive bar in front of you. A sign hangs above the door, and through the spray paint you can still make out 'Stan's Place'. With a bit of hesitation you enter the building.
The place smells like it looks… rotten. Empty bottles and assorted trash litter the tables and floors. Cobwebs and dust seemingly coat everything. A game of billiards sits half finished, as if frozen in time.
You glance over at the bar and are shocked to see a decrepit barkeep slowly washing a glass. The ancient barkeep doesn’t even look at you.
“Out back.”
He says with a slow nod of his head towards a door marked ‘Employees Only’.
You move towards the door, careful as to not step in any of the unknown mess. You find a set of stairs behind the door.
“This is ridiculous, I’m better off on my own…”
You think as you turn to leave. But something stops you. Not something supernatural, or physical, but something within you. You remember that you came here for a reason, whatever that reason may be, and you are going to see it through… at least a while.
You move down the stairs. They seem to go on forever, as if your entering the center of the earth. Finally before you stands a massive sheet of metal, and next to it a strangely new looking intercom. You press the talk button on the intercom and mutter your name. The sheet of metal slides open to reveal a fresh looking, high-tech war room. Around the table sit four others, presumably in the same position as you. You take a seat…
“So this is who I’m with” the man better known as Diamond Jim thought to himself. “Sadder situation than I would have guessed.”
The geologist, Dottman, was a surprise appearance. Then again, he was here, so perhaps he shouldn’t have. Then there was Cooper, who it seemed had finally quit running. Shame, really. He was the kind of person these beep power registration laws hurt the most. Osprey also didn’t take much work to recognize. He hadn’t ever dealt with the man himself, but he did know people who had battled him on occasion. One he had talked to had even called the man a ‘joke’. That just left one he failed to recognize. Either he had managed to stay low on radar or was a new guy. Hard to tell.
You could cut the tension with a knife. Shane sat their, silently watching his newfound...partners. He had been working out as of late, increased is normal human strength, but he was still trying to figure out if he could take on all of them. That one with the...dark and foreboding look, though.
He could be trouble. For all Shane knew, they were all trouble. But he knew the laws were out to get them...they had a common enemy. And to Shane, that made them friends.
