Next week's event is the Unrestricted DC only event. My question is: does that go for objects as well? I expect to see Starros and Antimonitors and Spectres (oh my!), and I'd like to be able to use the Meteorite and the Shield Disruptor, but both objects were released in Marvel sets.
The DC-only events refer to everything in your team build, as well as BFCs. As far as objects go, only special objects have to be from DC, so you couldn't use either of those. I could definitely be wrong though, but it makes sense, because a standard object isn't really going to affect gameplay, but a special object definitely would.
Again I could be wrong, but this is the impression that I have. Good luck at the tourney!
Yeah, going over the tourney rules, it looks like restrictions by set or by retirement includes all game elements which includes pogs and special objects.
The description for this event doesn't specifically say it, but all the other rules precedents heavily infer it. I know that doesn't mean too much when it comes to Wizkids, but I'm sure that's how any sane judge would rule it.
I'm pretty sure that DC-only refers to *everything* that you could possibly bring to the table. All cardboard elements should have a set symbol and ID number (and I'm pretty sure most of the 3D objects also have ID numbers and set symbols printed on them).
See 2.3 of the comprehensive HeroClix Tournament rules: "All game elements that have a set symbol from a retired set are also retired". The DC-only restriction should work like retirement in that it prevents entire sets from being used, so all game elements from those barred sets should also be illegal for use.
edit: Oh, and if it turns out that certain earlier 3D objects don't have set symbols printed on them (and thus might be able to get around the restrictions mentioned above), I personally wouldn't try to exploit that loophole. It's not going to endear you to the judges and other players, most likely.
DC only means DC only to me.
That means that the old 3-D objects (that aren't from a DC set) are just as illegal as Marvel special objects would be. Just because they aren't Marvel doesn't make them DC. I think of them as "Indy objects".
Of course, if we ever have an any Indy but Indy only tournament, then they would be illegal for that as well.
I would ask the venue what DC only entails, whether this includes special objects and BFCs. As if you read the above, it can mean different things to different people.
