The way I see it, the two main targets of the attack don't take further damage from splash. They are not damaged "normally" by the EE : they only suffer the punishment of Doom damage value, each of them, and knee. Only the secondary targets are damaged normally (by the "splash effect"). Or do I misread this ?

Well, it does say that Doom's SP can USE Energy Explosion and not just a variation of it. So whatever usually happens to a 2-adjacent-target EE ((damage to themselves and splash damage to each other) must and should work.
