Here are some ideas for 500pts., both based on teams that actually appeared for a while in the comics: Ultimate X-Men (500pts.):
E Cyclops 68 pts.
V Jean Grey 50 pts.
V Logan 60 pts.
E Colossus 95 pts.
V Beast 80 pts.
V Storm 52 pts.
V Iceman 47 pts.
V Shadowcat 40 pts.
R Paramedic 8 pts.
Or, you can go with the 'Classic' X-Men version here: 'Classic' X-Men (499pts):
V Professor Xavier 83 pts.
E Cyclops 68 pts.
V Jean Grey 50 pts.
V Beast 80 pts.
V Iceman 47 pts.
V Storm 52 pts.
V Logan 60 pts.
E BoomBoom (Jubilee) 19 pts.
V Shadowcat 40 pts.
I'm in the process of Modding the first team so that they look exaclty like the Ultimate X-Men.
I've not played either team in a tournament setting yet, but they both look like good teams 'on paper'.

These are the X-men I almost always use:
U NightCrawler (duh) I use him te first turn to attack, then push him back to exchange a click of damage with:
V Collosus: once in his best click I use
Shadowcat (R/E/V/U), V Jean Grey or V Rogue to taxi/TK him towards the enemy. Then charge the rest of the way, maybe picking up an object along the way.
V Jean Grey is great with her TK and Support (that's what she is all about; SUPPORT! 7 AV is not a real threat to an enemy)
E/V Cyclops is a must in an X men team; he is simply the best ranged attacker of the X-men. Mostly i put him on a building, where the Bricks can't hit him easily, and he can easily hit the bricks.
I don't really use Psylocke alot, 'cause most of the X-ranged attackers have RCE, which doesn't go well with Enhancement.
The Professor is a great unit with his Leadership and MC. Just keep a Taxi near him to bring him to safety when necessary
With the addition of XP, the X-men are now a team to recon with. Here are a few of my ideas on them from the begining:
Wolfsbane: A solid back-up character. Not a frontline attacker, she can be a great cleanup hitter late in the game. Use her as a bodyguard for Jean to keep her healthy, exchange a click of damage to keep another teammate healthy and get her going.
Jean Grey: Use her Vet version whenever possible. In a theme environment, the X-men are the only superhero team with support. Heal with her, then push her to heal again, or send the newly healed character into the fray. Then use another character to exchange damage to keep her on that first click. Her AV is pretty low, but the X-men all have pretty low DV anyway, so it not much of a problem. Her other versions are OK, but are limited to TK as thier only trick.
Wolverine: I'm not to hip on Wolvie, but I don't have much luck with BCF. All in all he is a solid character. Use his stealth to creap up to combat, or bring him in with a taxi. Him and Rogue are a good 1-2 punch. Charge in with Rogue, then a follow up hit with Wolvie will usually decimate a figure. His regen is never a bad thing.
Proffesor X: He is a one trick pony, but he is good at it. A 10 range and an 11 AV means he will be MCing without much problem. Leadership is never bad either. Defend is OK, but is not generally much help, most main attackers don't have a problem hitting a 16. The Unique is not a good buy in my opinion. His 1 damage does not make up for the lower range and higher movement.
Cyclops: He is good at what he does. A high AV means he will hit a lot. RS will help him get into position, and RCE will bring the hurtin. (yes, I know they don't work together) And 3 arrows is always an option. Just dont ever let him get based, or he will fall quickly.
Rogue: A good frontline piece, especially now that the X-men have some cheep taxis. Charge in carying another attacker, and you have a great 1-2 punch. Inv will help keep her around, as will steal energy.
E-Magneto: Pre-XP, he was my leader of choise. A flyer with TK was what the X-men needed, a second taxi. He still has a solid damage, just not great. Have him carry Psylocke for her enhancement, or Gambit for the Perplex.
V-Wt. Queen: Don't bother. Essentially, you are paying 94 points for outwit. And she doesn't get that until her 4th click. By the time she gets it, the game is probably almost over.
Nightcrawler: What can I say that hasn't already been said? A great piece. HSS will get him where he needs to be. SS will help keep him alive. With the addition of perplex in the new X-men, he is a monster that can do his part to take out the enemy heavys. His high DV late into the dial isn't much of a problem, simply have someone transfer a click to him, then heal the other character. Wolfsbane and Boom-Boom/Meltdown are good for this. A must for all X-teams IMHO.
Boom-Boom/Meltdown: The cheepest X-men so far. Her low AV really limits her to a medic killer or just a piece to keep the others healthy. She is mostly just filler though.
Shadowcat: Possibly the best taxi out there. Definately the best X-men taxi. Use her to get your heavies int the fight, and pull them out to the medic. SS will help keep her alive. The U version of her is not bad, adding a range and EE, but its pretty limited. I think you would be better off with the E version.
Iceman: Another good taxi. Barrier and RCE adds options to him, but a shallow dial limits him. Use him more for taxiing and Barrier.
Beast: A great piece. Charge, a good AV and damage, and the ever versitile Perplex make him a solid attacker. Taxi him in and let him go to town. Support later on in his dial is not bad, but his low AV at the time (6) severely limits him. Do not rely on him as your healer!
Psylocke: Her R version is good for 1 thing, and she does it well, Enhancement. Unfortunately, most of the good ranged X-men have RCE, so she doesn't mesh well with them. Have her hang with Phoenix for the best use. On her E,V versions she becomes a solid piece. She still has enhancement, but she picks up stealth and BCF, and a range boost to 8 on her V version. Have her hang in the bushes with Gambit, and alternate attacking between them. Her high AV with BCF will make your opponent think twice before closing in on them.
Gambit: Stealth/Perplex. Its what he does. (the R misses out on this combo) His low range (topping out at 6 on the vet) severely limits him, but still a solid backup piece. EE is not bad if you can get it to work at his range, especially if he is hanging out with Psylocke.
Colossus: The X-mens only real brick. Unfortunately, he suffers from that first human click. After that, he is pretty straight-forward. Charge, Super Stregnth, and Inv. His low DV is his real downfall, but is a great boon when he's back at the medic. Pair him up with Shadowcat, plain and simple. Taxi with SC, push SC to taxi him again, and use the team ability to heal her. Unfortunately, that means he doesn't attack until the 3rd round if you push him, or the 4th round if you hold him back. Once he takes some punishment, use SC to get him out and back to the medic.
Storm: Pass up the E. Its just not really worth it. Her R is ok, but the V is where its at. 10 range, 10 AV with RCE or EE is never bad. Plus she can be used as a taxi. Team her with Cyke for maximum support fire. Unfortunately, she has a big glass jaw. Her speed and AV drop 2 points each to 8 on the second click, and even more on the third, losing RCE also. After that, she isn't much good, so use the team ability to keep her fresh.
Phoenix: 12 range. thats what she is about. A 9 AV ensures that she wont be your main attacker, but she is is a solid piece all around. 10 speed and TK makes her kind of a uber-taxi. A 2 damage her entire dial is not bad, especially if you pair her with Psylocke and some Perplex.
here is an X-men team I was using prior to X-plosion. I have been out of the loop for a bit..I have a good selection of X-plosion X-men now...just have to put a team together.
The team I used earned me 2nd place in a few tournies, and surprised a lot of locals who thought the team ability was ####.
I think that. although incredibly hard to find, Nightcrawler is a great asset to an x-men team. I've been testing out x-men in a 400 point game here's what i've been toying around with.
U Nightcrawler 83
U Shadowcat 36
V Cyclops 78
V Storm 52
V Paramedic 12
V Paramedic 12
V wolfsbane 39
V Gorilla Grodd 86
398
Now I know I know, when did gorilla grodd become part of the x-men, I've decided to make him an honorary member, cause that monkey sure is cool and in my opinion he's a lil better than unique Prof X. But most of the time first turn I'll go second and fly out 8 or ten inches then drop down the vet cyclops and grodd to play, grod tries to mindcontrol and cylops tries to hit with RCE, then next turn I'll have crawler come up and get into positon, then I start a shooting gallery and between shots, crawler will bamf up and attack either lower point vaule gis, just to clear the board, or he will go after threats, because he's came of a frey ok, thanks to his supersenses. I think that the x-men are a playable type, My team has alot of range but can still handle it's self if they get in a bind, and the healer are readily used to keep the fight going. Thats about it for me.
