FORGE mini announced ages ago... is it ever gonna happen?
I remember some time ago; maybe 2 years back by this point, I'm not sure, Marvel had announced at some big convention that there was to be an upcoming FORGE miniseries written by acclaimed Native-American novelist/filmmaker Sherman Alexie. I was extremely excited as I love Alexie's film Smoke Signals and adore his books. And now a great deal of time has passed and I'm always looking at Marvel's 3-months-out sales solicitations and the series is still nowhere in sight.
Anybody happen to know anything at all about it? I'd be bummed out if it had been dumped though by this point I figure it must've been.
I had not heard about it until you posted here. I would suggest either a) posting this inquiry on Marvel.com or b) seeing if he has a Wikipedia entry that may have some info (taken with a grain of salt, of course).
EDIT: forget Wikipedia, nothing there about under entries for Mr. Alexie or Forge.
For a second I thought this was a thread written by someone who's actually a fan of Forge. Anyway, the prospect of a mini-series by Sherman Alexie is definitely something I can understand someone wanting to read. I'm not sure this was officially confirmed as I only saw this in a rumour column over a year ago after a quick search. I guess it could still be happening though, some writers actually take time and effort to create something truly worthwhile.
Well I do like the Forge character but it's a bit hard to be a FAN of any character that's shunted off to the background for decades at a time as there's not too much to be a fan of; Forge hasn't really had much going on since he walked out on Storm's late acceptance of his marriage proposal in the mid 90's.
My main draw for this if it were to ever happen though would indeed be for Sherman Alexie though.
And recently it's crossed my mind that maybe instead of or prior to a Forge mini, maybe they should enlist Alexie to do an 'X-Men Origins: Thunderbird" One shot
I'm not a big fan of X-men other than Astonishing and Morrison's run. But I would buy this mini. Forge always seemed to me a fascinating character, and I enjoyed the hell out of him in Inferno, of all things.
The frame where Storm returns after walking the earth like Kane in Kung Fu to find he's cannibalized all but the barest skeleton of his artificial leg to build the machine is one of those comic images that has always stuck with me. I would seriously buy the mini based solely on my memory of that frame.
Marvel is waiting for DC to do a story about a mystic-techie guy that they can coopt and then have their minions declare as "Awesome."
Considering what's going on in DC right now, and how they're basically ripping off SI with their Final Crisis?? And recycling Crises over and over (Grant is even ripping himself off from a story he wrote in JLA years ago...)
Man and they call Marvel fans "Zombies"...the ONLY good things DC has right now are GL, GLC and Booster Gold. the rest is GARBAGE.
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing
How is a story about the villains finally defeating the heroes and finishing them off in their final night a rip-off of a story about invading shape-shifters?
Anyway, I suspect you can find the Forge TPB next to "Ultimate Hulk versus Wolverine" on the rack.
