Hello, all!
Thanks to the newest online issue of Dark Horse's 'Dark Horse Comics Presents' web comic anthology, readers can get their first new taste (not including con-exclusive sketchbooks and the like) of Larry Marder's classic 'Tales of the Beanworld' in, what, fourteen years now? Yikes...
Here's a direct link to the whole DHP issue (and from there you can access past issues featuring great talent such as Joss Whedon, Gilbert Hernandez, and Eric Powell, among MANY others!): http://www.myspace.com/darkhorsepresents
And here's a brief synopsis of "Tales of the Beanworld" (thanks to Wikipedia! ):
"Tales of the Beanworld is an independently published comic book, created by Larry Marder. Beanworld features stories about the life and times of a host of "bean" characters including Beanish and Mr. Spook. It takes influence from Native American mythology, ecology and pop culture.
The first issue was published in 1985, and the series ran 21 issues until 1993. The first four issues were printed independently as The Beanworld Press. Starting with issue five, the title was released by Eclipse Comics. A total of 4 book collections were released, reprinting issues #1-16.
In April 2008, it was announced that Larry Marder will be resuming the series in early 2009. The revived series will be published by Dark Horse Comics, who will also republish the previous 21 issues, possibly in deluxe hardcover editions."
I have one or two of the Eclipse issues. I thought this was a pretty interesting comic. I'll have to dig those out and look them over again.
I might not read the new stuff on the DHPMySpace page, though. I like to wait until they are collected into a trade first. The Beanworld stories will be collected the next time DHPMySpace does another anthology trade, right?
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
