Alright, so I have just recently started the World of Warcraft TCG and after originally trading for some Druid cards ( Feral ) and realizing I wasn't a huge fan of Thangal, at least with the cards available to me, I decided to try my hands at a Warlock. I have very few cards...well, maybe 2 boxes worth, but most of the rares don't match up so I have about 4 rares per class, so theres not a whole lot for me to work with. I've had minimal input from some friends who play the game, and this is the deck that I came up with.
Hero- Dizdemona
Affliction Warlock
Quests
---------
3 Finkle Einhorn, At Your Service!
3 The Love Potion
3 Kibler's Exotic Pets
3 Chasing A-Me 01
3 The Dying Balance
1 The Missing Diplomat
4 Its A Secret To Everyone
4 Eye of Kilrogg
4 Shadowbolt
2 Dark Pact
3 Life Tap
1 Mortal Delights
Clearly I don't own a 4th Life Tap. I'd be running it if I had one. I'd also be running 2 more The Missing Diplomat, although I am unsure at the cost of which Quests.
Eye of Kilrogg seems really strong as its a one for one, but lets you get full access of their entire hand, not only revealing their hand, but likely their general strategy and you can pick apart what they need most.
Shadowbolt is great board control and usually offers up a straight 2 for 1. While your discard isn't chosen, its still one less resource they have. Seems like it is one of my favorite removal cards in the game so far.
Life Tap...I run Igvand and Sarmoth, so I should be pretty safe early game, so I can likely afford some life lost to this card. Especially when it allows me to cheaply refill my hand.
Dark Pact- Same deal. If I am just going to be replacing my pet, why not net 3-6 cards for it first? Especially since I can get them back.
My characters are mainly defensive, and than I run cards to "hate" on equipment, abilities, and than to heal myself and deal direct damage. Once I establish a strong board presence and get my card advantage up and running, I can usually use these to maintain board control and eventually push through for a win.
Overall I'd really like to fit in a few more Missing Diplomats and than some tech characters, mainly a Jaina and a few others to close out the end game. This has done pretty well against the players I have come up against, but I cannot vouch at all for the ability of those players, or their decks, as I don't know this game all that well yet.
I'd love to get some input here. My main worries with my deck are...
1.) Quests- I am unsure what the right quest choices are for this deck. I've been told 15-18 is the ideal number, but I really do like 18-20 overall so far. I somewhat like The Defias Brotherhood as I've managed to keep board presence pretty solid overall. I like The Love Potion because I get alot of Allies out but they are not naturally aggressive so I can afford to exhaust them.
2.) Character selection- I don't know if I want to reduce the number of pets I run. I haven't really used a Sideboard yet, but should I replace Mofiel with a different 4 cost card so I don't have to lose Sarmoth and simply side in Mofiel for matchups where the ability hate is more useful? If so, what character is good?
3.) The metagame- I have no other decks to base this's competitiveness against. I have heard about Hunter Rush, and I guess a Warrior deck did really well recently as well. I'm not sure what is in those, and how to go about combating them.
Any and all advice and criticism is welcome and appreciated.
Warlock is probably a fairly good place to start when trying to build on a budget so good selection there.
I personally do believe that you are running too many quests (which is something I almost never say). At least I think 20 quests and 3 life taps are too many. If you like the 20 quests and I can see that at least as a starting point I would probably ditch the life taps and some times the damage taken on life taps can cost you the game especially with a slower warlock build. But I wold certainly lose 3 or 4 between those 23 cards.
In the place of those cards I would suggest running 'Steal essence'. The fact that the card is an instant can be huge and quite the opposite of life tap the 2 or 4 life gained here (not even taking into account the removal aspect) can buy you another turn to try and win the game.
I do think that is too many pets in your deck. I would definitely removed the morfiels (at least to the side board). Sarmoth and Infernal seem to be fairly standard and work decently together. sarmoth holds off attackers until you get the opportunity to drop infernal. (When your trading or budget allows I would like to see a 3rd infernal in here)
The only other comment I will make is in your quest selection. it sounds like you are playing towards the late game and if that was the case I would add in 2 or 3 'In dreams' which is a great late game quest.
I think you have a good start here just keep tweaking until you find all of the right numbers and cards.
Yeah, I will actually be the first to, well, second now, to say I actually find myself with too much draw. More draw than I am able to pay for, at least.
Between Freya and the addition of Steal Essence, I think that Life Tap is still a fine inclusion in the deck. I will probably cut down on some of the Quests in order to make room for the SE.
I am unsure what the best 4 cost ally to replace Morfiel would be though. I like Morfiel's nice stats as he provides a more aggressive option for my build, so I probably would like to maintain that option with my replacement. This works especially well when Igvand and Sarmoth are excellent at defending.
I will definitely be able to get access to more cards in the upcoming weeks though. A 3rd Infernal is certainly on the list of priorities. I have a fondness for Warlock anyways due to that being my main in the MMO ( only got to 60, than finals...so yeah, need to work on that ) so I may want to invest in a Warlock for the longhaul too.
I don't think I will include In Dreams because I actually rarely find myself really honestly running out of steam. Coming from someone who has played TCGs since the 3rd grade ( Just finished my junior year of college heh ) thats a very hard thing to claim. Between the ( too many ) quests and Life Tap, Dark Pact, and recursion, I usually have plenty of options, especially when Eye and Shadow Bolt help reduce their play options.
I guess I'll just have to get a better feel for the game overall as I play more and whip my deck into shape a bit more. I guess its giving me a good starting point for local tourneys, and hopefully it will give me a chance to win me a bit of produce so I can build up my collection, as even once I get a summer job, I play two other games more competitively than this one so my "disposable income " is stretched pretty thinly lol.
Right now I would LOVE suggestions on a 4 cost ally. I am headed to be, its 4 am, but I plan on checking the set lists for good options tomorrow.
Your deck doesn't seem to have an end-game at all. I would try and get an ally like Lady Jaina that dissallows all opposing ally's from attacking. That way only your opponents hero and abilities can target her and you can defend with Sarmoth and Igvand. That seems to be the biggest weakness I can see for your deck. Stalling out to the end of time is fine, but it can backfire.
Yeah, I have a poor man's end game at best. I definitely aim to trade for a Jaina. I've got the hefty 8 cost Orc Warrior for the Horde, but he doesn't do too much good for a Gnome such as Dizdemona.
Like you said though, this is an instance of having a deck that can get itself to the end game, and have plenty of options at its disposal, but not enough power to get the job done usually.
hmm jaina is not the good card it used to be. there is too much rempoval like shadowburn that will just auto kill it. i think you really need a magni and a lord grayson for there tough boodys and great abilitys. if jaian had a 5 toughness she would be your gal but she dosent. i would also recommend and not just recoomend but demand yes demand to see 4 parvinks in here asap. good luck with the build

Parvink is quite awesome. She could be useful. Magni is pretty good, considering his stats and ability. As long as you can protect him for the first turn he comes out you should be good to go with him and his token planting.
So I traded in all my MTG cards to the local store and walked out with 4 boxes of Heros of Azeroth. Got some pretty nice pulls, including the Turtle Mount loot card, and good old Magni, and the Jaina.
After a bit of re-working, here is what my deck currently is, before being browbeat into running 4 Parvink The card is really nice, cheap body, protects, and replaces itself. Also good with Finkle as it cycles late game too.
4 Crazy Igvand
3 Melgwy Pingzot
3 "Chipper" Ironbane
4 Sarmoth
2 Seva Shadowdancer
3 Medoc Spiritwarden
3 Infernal
3 Lafiel
1 Lady Jaina Proudmoore
1 King Magni Bronzebeard
4 Eye of Kilrogg
4 Shadowbolt
4 Life Tap
3 Dark Pact
3 Kibler's Exotic Pets
4 Its a Secret To Everyone
3 Chasing A-Me 01
2 Finkle Einhorn, At Your Service
3 The Love Potion
2 The Defias Brotherhood
2 The Missing Diplomat ( yes...5 total boxes...2 copies. Nice )
"Upgraded" Freya to Seva. Added more Spiritwardens since I got them. Added 2 end game cards, even if Jaina isn't the optimal play anymore, its probably the best I own at the moment besides Magni. Chipper smashes equipment really well.
I assume that to add 4 Parvink, I will...
-3 Melgwy Pingzot ( moving to sideboard, vs control )
-1 Lafiel ( also probably to sideboard for the moment )
+4 Parvink
Melgwy was ok, but I never needed him until late game, and his impact will probably be lessened with the option for stronger late game plays such as Jaina and King Bronzebeard.
I need to work on a Sideboard next as well. I am looking at 3-4 Morfiel, the Fel Hunter, and 4 Curse of Tongues. Probably the 3 Melgwy, and a 4th Chipper, and the 3rd Lafiel at the moment. Thats 13 if I go 4 Morfiel. Any suggestions as to what a good sideboard looks like would be certainly appreciated!
i thinnk you shoudl put 1 melgwy into the deck and take out 3 quests. with the 2 spaces you have left add 4 steall essence and take out 2 shadowbolts. also look into the 1/2 protector 1 drop from tdp. replace igvands with him since he has a nice prevnetion effect
also with the sideboard youre gonna wanna run unraveled plans and moria darkheart.
now when you get more into the game and start buying singles, look into nemesis skullcap and ancient cornerstone grimoire. 2 very overpowered cards that come out of onyxias treasure pack.
