Do special abilities such as Energy Explosion and Poison do damage to figures with toughness, invul, or impervious no matter what or do you have to outwit them to do any damage?

Far as i know toughness and invul would prevent anything but a push and psychic blast. however with EE if a charcter would be in the middle of 2 people who get hit with a double arrow EE then he would take 2 clicks not one which would get through toughness because you have to take all the EE damage at the same time
