We were play a venue supported event last week when an interesting senerio came up. Two teams fought and no one had a KO'd character. However, one team did use the Protected FEAT which normally gives your opponent the 8 point cost of the FEAT since it is removed from play.

The figure in question recieved no other damage for the rest of the game. Should the two players have rolled off since there was no KO'ed figures or should the player who used Protected have lost the match 8pts to 0pts. Please reference where in the rules this is explained so that I can explain it next time we play.
As it stands: I believe the score should have been 8pts to 0pts in favor of the person who didn't play Protected.
It would have been 8 pts to 0. When a one time feat is used the points are given to the last person to damage the figure, if that is no one then the points are distributed among the other players(being only one other they would get full points). This is found in the FF rule book page 20
"Feats assigned to eliminated characters
undamaged by opponents. If no opposing player damaged
the character to which the feat was assigned, split the victory points
for the feat evenly among all opponents."
There was a time (before the FF rulebook) when the rules required that a character be eliminated before points (such as from feats) were used to determine who the winner was. Under those rules (I emphasize again - pre-FF) in your scenario, the score would have been 8-0, but the winner would have had to be determined by a die roll.
With the FF rulebook, this changed and points are points and you only have a die roll for winner when you have a tie.

Not to quibble about old rulesets, but at that time didn't we also count survivor points?

The 8-0 would have been wrong, had points been counted - but the rules still were (then) that you don't count any points until/unless a figure is KO'd.
