I know a comic book store owner who is looking to sign up his store to get the tournament prize pack for organized play with HOT. As far as I've learned from this site, that includes 3 copies of the 5 LE's for the set as well as some 3-D objects and other prize material for tournaments. Also I'm pretty sure I read that it costs $17.99 (american I'm guessing) for all of this. Is this correct? And how would he go about setting this up for his store? Who does he have to contact? Do these tournaments have to be sealed? Or once he receives the prize kit is it up to him how it is distributed? Any info or links would be very helpful, thanks.
Now that wizkids is being restructured, once you order from diamond, you should get a chance to order the prize kit and then presumably you would get to do whatever you want with it. I am not sure and I don't think anyone else is either, how approved will run yet.
Your retailer needs to contact his distributor that he is getting his product from. Right now that means Diamond/Alliance or straight from NECA. I haven't heard of anyone else distributing the game at this time.
Thanks guys. So he definitely has to order boosters of HOT as well then? He can't just order the prize kit and run tournaments selling just the boosters he has from older sets that he wants to get rid of?

No. Retailers are only eligible to buy the Prize kit, when they order HoT product.
The goal of OP would be to generate continued sales of new product.
With tere being no set method, only suggestions, there is no reason that the event coordinator/venue/judge couldn't incorporate some older sets into a sealed event. A combined 2 booster one HoT one other Marvel would work well for example.
Yeah. They must order one case of HoT to be eligible to buy the HoT prize pack.
But there are no rules attached to the prizes contained therein. If they wanted to, they could offer LEs to anyone that purchased a certain amount of old product.
But I think that using old boosters in sealed (regular or draft) is a better way to go, personally.
So it's not a very large comic book store, so you're saying even if he only ordered one case of HOT (2 bricks right?) he would still be able to purchase the prize kit also?
P.s. does anyone know how much a case will cost a retailer? And is the prize kit $17.99 like a read somewhere?

If it's a "real" shop (not something in somebody's garage) then they have that information through their Diamond or Alliance sales rep.
Diamond/Alliance is still extending the 47.5% discount to retailers ($6.80ish a booster). If the store has a large enough volume they could try to go through NECA directly. I have been told that the rate they are selling HoT product to retailers will be lower than D/AD.
Lofcutus is correct here. If your trying to start up a new game venue or trying to convince an owner to start one. Let him know he has to purchase 1 case of HOT, he is then eligible to purchase the prize kit. It really isn't appropriate to talk about retailer pricing here. Most distributors work on a sliding scale .. ie; bigger the order the bigger the discount. So knowing what person A paid for a case is all well an good ... doesnt mean that your retailer can match that price, as you said hes a smaller comic store/ probably with a smaller budget.
Alot of the questions your asking here should be taking place between your store owner and his distributor. If he wants to share this info with you thats up to him. But don't be surprised when he doesn't, when was the last time you had a long talk with the manager at your local Walmart about profits and losses for the last month?

Which would be the case accept that Wizkids made a horrible deal with Diamond/Alliance, then made the terms public by means of foolishly releasing those details on a power point presentation. It's been a well known fact what the break is for WK products since at least the spring of 2007 (that and the fact that it is a flat rate with not bulk discount).
That's the ONLY reason that folks here are comfortable talking about the terms and distributor pricing on WK items. Hopefully that will change in the near future when NECA works out a more equitable deal with whomever wishes to distribute WK product in the future.

Once again your right ... i had totally forgotten about that ... and it was such a good laugh at the time. My point was that if i walked into a LCS and started flogging the poor man with the actual cost of items, i wouldn't be surprised to not be very well received 8)
