I just finally read it up...so, Wolverine massacres the X-Men?
Really?
By way of Mysterio?
He's only a lights and smokes person, no way he fools anybody of Wolverine's caliber.
Also, at the onset of the battle, the X-Mansion is blown up, Jubilee is killed yet the final "target" of Wolverine's rampage was Jubilee? Did Millar miss something here? But consider this, since she was the final target and Wolverine said she was "Bullseye" and they had been trading attacks for 90 minutes.
Let me repeat this. "Bullseye" as Jubilee against Wolverine for 90 minutes? She cannot last all of 90 milliseconds against Wolverine, let alone 90 minutes.
I'm just saying, for such a great hardcover novel, Chapter 5 really threw it off for me:
the timing of Jubilee's death at the beginning and the end;
the fact she stood up against Wolverine for 90 minutes;
and all it took was a B-Level Spidey villain to fool Wolverine?
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

amen to that brother ... does the hard cover have the giant sized finally .. because i actually think thats the worst part .. really the ending with Skull is better
The beginning was great, the art was amazing, and posible futures in comics are usullaty awesome.
BUT Hawkeye' dead feels cheap, and the end against farmer Hulk, mmm I did not like it. Maybe because I love Hulk so much more than Wolverine. but that it's just me.

Not sure I follow you...but yes the Giant Sized is included in the hardcover. Are you saying there are "two" endings and they added the one w/ the Hulk in the GS issue? I only read my friend's Hardcover...so maybe you can help me out here.

Yeah, even the regurgitation of Wolverine was a bit too much...

when she first came out, jubilee really held her own. she could tussle with wolvie all day. granted, his guts were hanging out. She also nearly killed all the reavers and pierce, and in a what if she kills sabretooth by herself after he kills betsy, the giant battery guy..bishop, and nearly kills beast. Very few people ever kill sabretooth, even wolverine
I'm seriously iffy on Millar's writing. He's great at setting up cool scenarios but always fumbles the ball on execution. It's like he chooses to ignore established character personality/powers just so it fits his story better. To some degree that's creative writing but where he takes it I'm always left thinking: "When would it ever go down like that?"

It's odd. Even when I create a good story (for a joke or a mafia game, or wherever) I first imagine the great ending and THEN I "work" in what will bring that ending in an awesome way.
This writer looks like he do the other way around.
I liked it on it's own. And I loved the fact that all the recent Millar books (F4, Old Man Logan, Kick-###, and 1985) actually tie in with each other.
I believe in the issue where they do the Mysterio reveal, they mention that they figured out a way to fool even his senses.
I admit the Hulk stuff in the giant-size finale was a little..... disturbing; especially in regards to the origins of his new family. But it seems fitting in a "full circle" kind of way that his ultimate enemy in the story ends up being the Hulk.
It's a Wolverine story, and it's a little over the top, but it's also a 'possible future' story, so I give a lot of leeway to these types of books. I had fun reading it, and that's what I figure was most important.

I can see it. Get Wolverine pissed off enough and he's not thinking anymore JUST reacting. That's more or less what Mysterio did to him.
Only after he started THINKING about what was going on, did he realize what he had done. (and I do believe thet he was even tripping up Wolverine's sense of smell as well----remember Beck uses hallucinogenic gas. It takes even Wolverine's healing factor a few minutes before it can filter it out, kind of like his drunkeness).
The funny thing is, as Thunderclese pointed out, the story has not ended, it in fact continued into his Fantastic Four storyline where you actually see the outcome of the Hulk child being raised by Wolverine.
I'm going to hit him really, really hard with a big green boxing glove............ I'm kidding. - Hal Jordan
