Marvel Comics Releases For The Week Of 01/10/10 - 01/16/10
:cross-eye
ED HANNIGAN COVERED - You know his work when you see it, but whatever became of Ed Hannigan, one of Marvel's most prolific and innovative cover artists of the 70s and 80s? The 58 year old co-creator of Cloak and Dagger is suffering from MS and Marvel has produced this special tribute book to assist with his medical needs.
MARVELS PROJECT #5 (OF 8) - See Captain America's first mission retcon'd.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #617 - The return of The Rhino.
BLACK PANTHER 2 #12 - Prelude To Doom War - The lead up to the confrontation between Doctor Doom and the Marvel universe.
BLACK WIDOW - Deadly Origin #3 (OF 4) - Someone from Natasha's sorted past continues to attempt to destroy her and her allies in the present day.
DARK X-MEN #3 (OF 5) - Nate Grey is back and is headed straight for Norman Osborn.
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #22 - Stark Disassembled (Pt 3) - Marvel's finest are by Tony's bedside to see if anything can be done for the man they once knew while the Ghost from Thunderbolts closes in to make sure Iron Man never flies again.
NATION X #2 (OF 4) - Jubliee returns to the X-men at last.
SWORD #3 - Beta Ray Bill, Jazinda, Karolina, all the Earthbound aliens, are in Gyrch's grip and he wants them, and Agent Brand, off the planet. Lockheed to the rescue.
I had Iron Man, SWORD, and on the indy side, the final part of the Die Hard miniseries Boom has been releasing.
The thing that sticks out in my mind this week, however, is something that's really nothing more than a sight gag from SWORD with Beast's mug - It amounts to a periodic table square, element 110 - AW or "Awesome". I even missed it the first time around, but couldn't stop laughing when I actually noticed it. And it doesn't even seem like it should be one of those things that sticks out so much, but I just can't help myself.
Realm of Kings #3- Well...I want to say this issue was great but it was kind of standing still in a metaphor type of way.
The IG spend most of the issue trying to break out of the dead biological ship. Eventually they get overrun by the "enzymes" trying to make the thing implode but Starbolt and the other fire/fusion guy give them a cremation. Mentor falls asleep and at the end is the payoff: a big streak of light is coming straight for them. It's Quasar. The real one. And he says he's been fighting off his pursuers for days. And they're right behind him.
These are some big bug/cthulu type bug-ships and they dwarf everything in the last panel.
I marked out for the return of Quasar. YEAH! He isn't dead. But guess who taht was on Earth at the end of the oneshot then? UH-OH!
2nd best moment for me: Seeing Gladiator daydream about what he really wants to do in "meetings". LOL
At anyr rate , solid storytelling but it was definitely all about getting out of the ship.
ASM 617: Agreed. Just a well done story about the old Rhino gettinig on the straight and narrow. But you've got to understand when a villian gets this much love, it's a swan song. They'll be killing him off in short order. And that's too bad. This is Joe Kelly at the top of his game, not like that ASM/Deadpool drek.
I don't plan on reading SWORD, but I want to know but happens as it involves one of the Runaways. If they kick her off the planet in a different book, I'll be quite upset.

Spoiler (Click in box to read)
As the legislation that is getting Karolina deported would also result in getting rid of about 3/4 of the main characters of SWORD, I seriously doubt that the law won't be repealed, so I wouldn't worry.
p.s. - She only had a little screen time, but she acted perfectly in character, more concerned at how word of her still being on Earth would effect others (Which I took to mean Xavin.) then herself.
