Each colossal is very, very different. Fin-Fang Foom, Anti-Monitor, Sinestro-Corp Anti-Monitor, Sinestro, Sentinel and Advanced Sentinel can all be beat by "normal" teams. A lot of these Colossals ignore Psychic Blast and Exploit Weakness. For the most part, they do NOT ignore Meteor or Pulse Wave, so I like to use them a lot. I would normally neglect too much support against Colossals as they can shoot out of adjacency and therefore have little problems dropping support pieces. I would also stay away from particularly high point glass-jawed pieces like KC Green Lantern. Many of them possess attack values that have no problem hitting a 20+ defense. Lots of good damage dealing characters works well. Winter Soldier, Namor and Herc with a TK'er, Empress with her RS Pulse Wave, a bunch of GCPD figs and others with good range. Also if you use BFC's those can be key. Things like Deep Shadows can get rid of their crazy ranges, and Armor Wars can help everyone deal damage.
Against Starro you need to really be able to do a lot of damage quick. His attack values are far less ridiculous so high defenses can help you here. Monster Hunter is a big boon. You really just need to be able to exceed what he can heal, which is a lot. So lots of Super Strength, RCE, CCE, Flurry, B/C/F and such is needed. Mr Fantastic with Brilliant Tactician can really help bolster your damage values. PC to limit the opponents Regen and Starrophyte rolls can be key. So don't be afraid to pack a few extra PC'ers, especially if they also have Barrier.
Then we get Spectre and Galactus. Short of using another Spectre or Galactus it takes very specific tactics and playing. If you can choose map and use the Junkyard map, then use HS yo-yos to come out from the compactor, hit and get back in you should be fine. Short of that, you really need to start getting complicated, Namor, Herc, KC Superman, and Zoom all packing Monster Hunter and people to Compel them, also 3 Dawnstars to help you hit. You need to drop them and fast, if the game makes it out of the third or fourth turn you have probably lost. No non-colossal figure can handle the shear damage these guys throw around, usually with Psychic Blast. To reiterate: 3 Dawnstars, tk, Big Big hitters, Monster Hunter, Meteor and Compel. Maybe some Pulse Wave for good measure (Metron/Thorbuster or Empress).
Lastly you have Old School Galactus. Short of the Galactus owner making a mistake, and say letting you keep your Kinetic Accelerator intact, and short of getting the Junkyard map, I am not sure you can win. Maybe a few Lanterns carrying dozens of Mary Jane pogs copying Mystics has a chance. Maybe. I know others claim to be able to beat him, but again, without Junkyard map or a Galactus player making a mistake, I'm skeptical. I had a few players at my venue tell me they could beat him, so I brought him and let them all try. They had teams designed specifically to do it but all failed to do so. In one game Galactus rolled 5 or 6 critical misses as well. So if you face this Monster, good luck!
Cheers,
Jon Id Schultz
As always, if you need anymore info PM me.
P.S. I have seen Galactus lose, when the controlling player let the opponent keep his Kinetic Accelerator intact.
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.
