I'm looking to get into manga.I've checked out several anime series(seen all of Dragonball Z and Berzerk).Any good manga reccomendations?I really want to avoid the romantic stuff.

BTW,it's a shame that Berzerk only went one series.I found it to be very enjoyable.
Well, the Berzerk manga continues the story well after where the anime leaves off. However, I must warn you that the anime is a lot more graphic than the anime was, and as much as I enjoyed the anime, the gratuitous violence, sex, and disturbing situations were too much for me and I couldn't continue reading it.
Dragon Ball was a major influence to a lot of works, but basically any shonen series would be similar in tone. Naruto is probably the biggest one in the US right now, and Bleach is close behind. One Piece sort of wraps up what a lot of people consider the shonen trinity (because apparently everything needs to be a trinity for some reason). The only issue is that all three are quite long and will take you some time and cost to catch up on. I'd say all three are worth it, but try and read the first few volume to see how they grab you.
You also might enjoy are Fullmetal Alchemist, and maybe Yu Yu Hakusho.
If you want something a little more mature and sophisticated I suggest you check out either Monster or 20th Century Boys by Naoki Urasawa, probably the best manga available in North America.
Negima is usually pretty good...is about a boy wizard who ends up teaching english at an all girls high school...is by the same guy who did Love Hina(also a great series both anime and Manga)...I also have AI Yori Aoshi (has some "romance" but is more comedy...basically a boy and girl at a young age were endowed...but the boy got kicked out of his family for some reason or other but the girl is still in love with him, so years later (he is going to college at this point) she leaves home to go be with him...but there are other females gunning for him because they have to keep their love a secret for the time being as he isn't royalty or whatever...is one of the few that I ended up buying the whole series, AI Love you is also pretty good...is by the Love Hina guy as well. It is about a guy who finds away to bring AI to life, and they fall in love and yea...comedy
SGT Rock is also pretty cool is about a frog like alien that shows up on earth to "conquer" it but he ends up becoming a pet to a boy and girl...and the Full Metal Alchemist Manga is a lot better then the anime, though they redid it for some reason. Claymore is pretty good as well...and Sandland is good, but it is only one book long, though it is sort of big. That one is by the same guy who did dragonball z...I think it was done before DBZ was done...some of the characters will look familiar in it though but it is really good...and Hikaru no Go manga is really good though from what the manga is about you would think it wasn't, but they did a really great job on it. Shaman King is great as well. Yu-gi-oh is a lot better in manga form, because he is king of games, not just king of yu gi oh cards, so it isn't based around the yu gi oh card game, but rather around all kinds of games...like one story line they were going through a gauntlet of games, like laser tag and tetris type things... Loveless is pretty good as well...another thing you might want to do is just look at what's in the Shonen Jump magazine, as they usually run some pretty good mangas in it, I had a subscription to it for years...
I picked up the newest Jump yesterday.Luckily I have a used book store close to where I work that sells manga for about 60-75% of list price, and they have a pretty good selection.
Thanks so far for all the suggestions.I'm even bidding on some back issues of Jump on ebay just to get a small collection built.

I have a lot of the Initial D mangas...pretty cool series, a lot better then you would expect...just forgot where I left off at (what issue) so never got back into it :-s
Also, I forgot Judas...that was really good, and is only like 6 books long
