Monster keyword and close combat...need some advice.
Hey guys, could really use some advice here. I really want to use a monster themed team, but I'm not sure how to use them to their full potential against ranged attacks. There are only a few key-worded Monsters that have ranged attacks. I really want to use Rampaging Hulk and Doomsday or the Marvel Zombies (Spidey, Giant-Man, Wolverine. & Iron-man). What is the best defense/counter against HSS or RS using Clix that are only close combat attack guys? The place I play HSS and RS or ranged attacks are dominating tactics. Any help is appreciated (cough REP cough, cough).
Seriously -- moloids can be very effective at blocking LoF to your big guns. If you're playing golden age, the critical mass rookie excels at this because they're only 6 points and have stealth. It will help you make sure you get your theme bonus as well, since Doomsday is very costly.
Yellow Lantern is also nice: push him to click 2 and he has an 18D with defend to help bolster defenses.
Cassandra Nova is also fun on a monster build: she's got exceptional range, mind control and psyblast, outwit, and can be fitted with contingency plan (in golden age).
Tornado Tyrant. Great TK/Ranged attacker for Monster teams. Great if you have a few charging monsters to throw out and rush into base contact/smack someone.
Yellow Lantern is intensely a finesse piece. It might not be worth adding him to the team just to push someone to the 18 Defense, since his other uses in the game are more for pinging figures with no reducers.

Cosmic Wolverine w/Shellhead 158
Zombie Iron Man 70 ---> for the Perplex, or for a 'cheaper' version of 'Perplex' use SI Mole Man w/Contingency Plan for 62 points (220-228)
HoT Ulik 118 ----> no feats required, but I like Lunge or Swingline on this guy myself 118-123-128 (338-356)
Black Queen 51 -----> for her TK. Cheaper than Tornado Tyrant, but less useful (389-407)
Man-Bat Assassin x3 = 138 (527-545)
R Moloid x5 30 (557-575)
Yellow Lantern SO 5 (562-580)
Of course you can add/subtract figures/feats as required. This team give you TK, Running Shot, Psychic Blast, Charge (x4), Perplex (or just + to Attack or Range) and +1 for Wolverines PB Attack. It also gives you some nice mobile blocking terrain in the Moloids, and a +13 to map choice.
I also might add a Protected to Wolverine because of his Power Cosmic TA and Shellhead.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
