Long narrow stores tend to be the norm for a lot of places, and considering the size of comics, it makes a lot of sense.
I remember there was a store in my hometown that had a very wide open space, and what happened was that people just kinda stuck to the wall that had all the new releases and the bin comics that took up the rest of the floor space were more or less ignored. They eventually switched to a narrower store which let them show off more new issues and trades as opposed to devoting space to bins for old comics.
Of course, that has a lot to do with it being more of a game store than a comic store. The back third of the store is nothing but tables for people to play games. We have enough tables for multiple games of Warhammer at the same time as a Magic the Gathering Tournament.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
The comic shops around here aren't too small...though one is comics and games...the other is mostly comics with some cards but it has like two huge rooms...just has comics and actions figures all over the place...
