So with Diana, Bruce and Clark we didn't have to worry, they all had the same keywords. I assumed that was going to be the norm.
But then they previewed Walter Kovacs, whose AE is Rorshach. Walter has Detective and Herald as keywords, whereas Rorshach has Detective and Watchmen.
So is it safe to assume that if you were to use the AE mechanic with these pieces, then you wouldn't be able to theme team him unless it was strictly Detective based?

Theme team is only check at the start of the game.
So if you have a theme team at the start you have a theme team.
i just want to know why people are asking about this but not about MC and Possession
Walter Kovacs is a herald. If you put together a team that is made up of him, Lyssa Drak, and Firelord, it meets all the requirements of being a herald theme team. It doesn't matter if later on you replace Walter Kovacs with Rorschach.
As Maraud alluded to, you do not lose theme benefits if you mind control or posess a non-themed character, nor do you lose it because you don't have the needed number of characters on your force anymore because someone gets KOd.
Theme is checked one time, at the beginning of the game. If you meet the requirements at that time, it doesn't matter what happens later (barring some theme-cancelling power or whatever).
So the converse is not true. Walter Kovacs doesn't have the Watchmen keyword. You can't have a Watchmen theme if you use Walter Kovacs. You will have to use Rorschach out of the gate.

So if the OP was playing Walter Kovacs on a Herald Keyword team to start the game and use the AE mechanic to bring in Rorscach its ok and he keeps the theme bonus?

I'm not sure what you mean by "he keeps the theme bonus" there. The bonus is applied to the force.
Look at it this way. If I have 3 guys on my 300 point Spy team, does it cease to be a themed team when one is KOed? (No )

I never really gave it much thought, but to me there would seem to be a difference between losing one of your SPY keyword figs and replacing one with a figure that does not have it at all. I learned something new today.
