Origin isn't exactly an "old set"; in fact, it just recently got retired. You can dump your Origin figs randomly in a box, pull out a random blind handful, and feel pretty safe playing them today.
Yeah origins and supernova are very competitive for the last of the REV sets. I think they will stay that way for a long while.
There are some clix that are still worth playing, and some clix that were never worth playing. Hopefully your new acquisitions include more of the former than the latter!
I recently got hold of a veteran Taskmaster; he's absolutely brilliant on Thunderbolts teams. Choose Sinister Syndicate as their TA and suddenly Moonstone can share his 12, not to mention benefit from his Perplex. How many figures these days have a 12 for less than 100 points?

And if Norm Osborn is on the team he can give a free range bump, too.

In Modern Age?
Avengers Captain Potatohead
Crisis Batgirl
Crisist Karate Kid
...and that's it. None of them have it to start though.

Then warbond and have Moonstone move every turn with Running Shot.
And if your opponent has lots of stealth, pick Ultimates instead.
What everyone before me said, wether I agree with them or not!
Serious response: I take old to mean, everything retired and before SP's came in to play. One piece that I still love and still has playability would have to be B/C/F pieces like U Elektra (in black), Ultimates (V) Wolverine (a lot of damage potential before he leaves the field), and Universe SS Wolverine (just can't beat getting a Wolverine for under 45pts). Another surprise REV set would have to be IC Hercules (I think this guy holds the standard for what Bricks should be). There are probably others, but those are off the top of my head.
oh, oh, oh... Man I almost forgot the MoS himself, KC Supes from back in Unleashed. This guy is still a beast for the points. There is a reason for why they put this man in a set called "UNLEASHED." (ps, and of all the SUPER Superman clix, he's probably the easiest to get a hold of other then Icons Superman)

Reason: I had to add KC SUPERMAN!!!
Smaug: "My wingspan will blot out the sun!"
Thorin: "Then we will fight in the shade."
For some more Unleashed playability, I love the frequently overlooked Cheshire.
Particularly the E and the V - cheap, stealth, good close combat DV and poison. What makes her a stand-out for an older figure though is that she's very pushable.
