Ok, next month we have a 600 point golden era tournament, and I was thinking of trying out my doppelganger for this event. I was looking at trying a mystical theme team:
I'll have two pieces that can take tokens for Doppelganger. It'd be nice to have one more, which could be done by replacing Magick and Malekith with Enchantress, but then I'll lose the X-Men TA battery for Dr. Strange. Strange can hide behind Magick, and with his defend and her energy shield, she'll be a 21 DV on hindering. Black Flash can either give tokens or chase down HSS pieces, or poison whoever needs it, or just harass outwitters. And with his damage perplexed up to 4, he won't be needing armor piercing. Doppelganger will have a 4-5 DaV thanks to Strange's BT, which should do plenty enough damage. Lunge will help him get to the combat after being TK'd by Malekith. Strange can copy Mystics when being attacked. With both Malekith and Strange ignoring certain types of terrain and/or characters, I won't be having LoF issues, and Malekith can actually be a decent tertiary attacker thanks to Strange's help.
All in all, it looks like a fun team. Well-balanced, and decently thought out. What I'm not sure of is if it's a tournament worthy team? Doppelganger is possibly the nastiest piece for the points in this set IMHO, and while most everyone else at our venue has had their turn fielding him, I've been holding off trying to build the perfect team.
The other option I've come up with is a Bombastic Bag Man Fantastic Four team:
MM221 Nova 200
w/ AWF008 Shellhead 10
SI101 Mr. Fantastic 100
w/ JLF003 Brilliant Tactician 20
SI112 Sue Storm 100
WS063 Bombastic Bag-Man 90
w/ MMF007 Taunt 15
CT069 Logan 60
Blue Lantern (5 points)
Total = 600
Nova gets nasty when she can running shot for 7 and has a 19 DV from shellhead. Bagman can be TK'd 10 (thanks to the lantern) and then taunt the opponent's big gun. Logan is a brutal piece when he's on his second click and having his damage perplexed by Mr. F, giving him a 10 AV flurrying for 5 each. Sue can use Get Away From Him to help protect Bagman from any pieces that the opponent doesn't mind getting hurt. Its sad to not have starter Thing on a F4 team, but Logan will serve as a decent sub.
This team looks pretty good, but I'm not as excited about it as the doppelganger team. I'll probably try making an Iron Man/War Machine team or a Thorbuster team, too, but this is all I have in me tonight.
