Can a character choose to move 0 squares?
Ex: A piece is based by a Mystic (doesn't want to attack) but needs to make an action (to push)
Ex: Charge in adjacency an opposing piece to move 0 squares, pick up an object they dropped, hit the opposing piece.

Yes.

MOVE ACTIONS
A character given a move action can move up to its speed value in squares across the map. A character might have a special speed ability (see Part 3) that affects how it can move. A character does not have to move its full speed value, and it can choose to move 0 squares. Characters can move diagonally, as shown in Figure 7.
Be proud of me this time, I looked it up first! (just didn't find it)

So with that said then, a character with super strength and charge could be based with an non-friendly character and do a 0 movement charge and pick up an object under the character and clobber him with it?
Hopefully I've got this one right because I did try to find my own answers first.
The character would need to successfully break away first. Even a move of 0 is required for breakaway.

Yes. The character would need to successfully break away to move, and thereby pick up the object. If the character failed the break away, the action would end without picking up the object or the attack.
That's what makes SI Hercules so awesome. He's got Charge, Flurry, and Super Strength with Plasticity all going at once. Only thing that'll trip you up is rolling a 1 for your breakaway.

Yeah....about that. I've yet to successfully breakaway with my Hercules.
