JLA Turn 15

"Superman!" said the Atom, for while Superman was able to withstand a hit from Cap's shield, he was just setting him up to be attacked by Warbird-who first absorbed the yellow sun energy from his own boby, then corrupted it into red sun energy and dark magicial energy that overwhelmed the Man of Steel and drove him to his knees, leaving only the practial scientist alone againt these seemingly magicial beings. He had no hope against a God, someone who laid out half the League single-handedly and could probaly hit him with that shield not matter what size he was and a woman dressed like the Marquis de Sade's wet dream (who had just taken out Superman). He was toast.

"Tell us where your Avatar of Death is, little one. " Thor intoneed "And the Many-Angled Ones may look upon you with favor!"

"Even if I knew who or what that was, I don't think that would be wise." said the Atom.

"Then join your comrades in oblivion!" said Thor as he whirled his hammer and set it loose.


"I think not!" said a cold, yet comforting voice. "Not when I can help it!" Twin vortexes sprang from the Red clad strangers hands, causing the atom to lift out the way of Thor's attack.

"Reddy! What are you...?" he began.

"When Batman called me, he also called the rest of the League." Zatanna answered. "Let's see...Whoa!" She quickly dodged out of way of Cap's shield. "Let's see what we have here." And she flew off to consult with Dr. Occult, Phantom Stranger and Madame Xanadu.

"Hello, Ray. Need a shoulder?" Adam Strange swooped down, laying down strafing fire with his laser pistol.

"Yes. Yes, I do." The Atom hopped on and the sped off, down to really concentrate on Cap, while Red Tornado battled Thor.

"Where's...?" but the Atom got his answer as a wave of transmutation hit the doors that seemed to be magicially sealed, announcing that Firestorm was here! And before the thigh-deep could begin to drain out, the Flash spun his arms around in front of him, creating a pressur that turned into a mini-tsnumia that pummeled the Leather Chick. Barry did it twice more, until she was too dazed to stand up straight. With the water receding rapidly and Firstorm transmutiting most of of the rest into it's component parts, Barry sped up and knocked Warbird out before she could gather herself.


"Bah! She was weak anyway!" said Cap as he hurled his shield at Red Tornado while using Thor's broad back as a springboars to jump to get to Adam at the Atom. whe Reddy predictably used his powers to deflect Cap's shield, it bounced off the pillar and instead of falling to the floor, kept going to Adam's back! Firestorm had only second to act!

[What is the stuff, Professor?] thought Ronnie Rayond to Professor Stein [It's resisting being changed into anything else].

[I've never seen anything like it on our Earth, Ronnie], replied Professor Stein, [But we...Oohh...] the Professer mentally winced as shield and man both hit Adam at the same time, causing him to fall in aheap on the floor, with Cap holding his shield and standing over Adam's body.

"Adam!" Firestom shot a blast of enegy, which Cap blocked, but the Flash used the openingb to zip in. But training with Quicksiver plus Super Soldier reflexes, allowed Cap to swing around and catch Barry in the gut with a solid shield bash! But, alas not even the Super Soldier could prepare him for the solid wind blast that Reddy hit him with while he was exposed.

But it also exposed him as a lightning blast from above hit Reddy from behind, frying his circuits and dropping him like a stone.

"Now youth," said Thor.

"Now, nothing!" said Firestorm as he strained his powers to the upmost to transmute the oxygen and nitrogen around Thor into.. the stuff that shield is made out of!

"These chains cannot hold me!" shouted Thor, but hold they did-despite bolt after bolt, and Thor straining against them, they held!.

"Good job, Firestorm!" said Zatanna. 'But we'll take it from here."


"!ecalp siht evael, cigam livE" Zatanna spoke, and backed by 3 other powerful mages, the dark undercurrent of Lord-Mar-vell's influence was beginning to wane. "!ecalp siht evael, cigam livE" Zatanna repeated herself, more forcefully, and a "NOOOO!!!" was heard as the last of Mar-vell's dark taint was gone, and the Avengers changed back to the more heroic appearence.


"You will be able to hold me long, Allied Scum!" said Thor. "I will be free..."

"What's this now?" said Dr. Occult. "This seems familiar..."

"It's the Spear of Destiny at work, Dr." said the Phantom Stranger. "And while Zantana will be able to easily break it hold over the others, breaking it hold over the Thunder God...will require assistence, and for me to walk a lonely road, for after all, I am a Stranger." And with that, he faded out in a nimbus of light.

"I hate it when he does that." said Madame Xanadu.

"What is going on?" asked the auburn haired, red garbed one as she rose from the floor "Why is Thor in chains?" I'm warning you..."


"I roused you, Wanda Maximoff. said Madame Xanadu, holding aloft the High Priestess card from a Gypsy Tarot deck. "We are not your enemies. You and your friends came here from far away, correct? Why?" A sparkle seemed to fill on of her eyes as she queried the young mutant.

"Yes..." said Wanda. "We came here...looking for Loki and his villianous band...then we wanted to crash this party...then I wanted...oh, the horror!" Wanda broke off.

"It's okay, child." said Madame soothingly. "It's over. The Old ones are back in the hole...for now. But now, we need you to help us break the enchantment the rest of your team is under."

"How did I wake up fine?" asked the Witch.

Madame Xanadu smiled. "I just gave Zee's original speel a little nudge is all." Now, cast, your hex while Zatanna does here thing."

"!esrever won ,esruc ynitseD fo reapS" Zatanna spoke, Wanda cast, and the Avengers woke as if from a dream. All but one.

"Traitorous #####!" screamed Thor. "I will tear you from limb to limb..."

"Why isn't Thor affected?" said Wanda.

"It's the Hammer, and the fact that the enchantment centers on his Norseness." said Dr. Occult. "As long as he holds it, we aren't going to be able to break it's hold on him."

"I'd offer to change it, but I'm doing all I can to contain him." said Firestorm "And I can tell it's anthor weird metal anyway."

"Don't bother Firestorm, help has arrived." A porat opened and out stepped the Stranger...with Odin Skyfather!


"Are you crazy?" said Dr. Occult. "We can barely contain the son, and you bring his father?"

"Exactly, Dr." said the Stranger. I brought this specific's Thor's father-not this Realms Odin. My aura is keeping the Spear's malignent presence at bay-for the moment."

"But why?" said Madame Xanadu.

"Because," said Odin, walking over and taking Mjolnir from Thor, "only I could that. And this." He tapped it on the ground, causing Thor to fade away, and become Dr. Donald Blake.

"Thank you, Odin." said Dr. Blake. I could only sit by and watch as Thor was used not once, but twice by evil forces."

"Ex...plain." said Odin, as he phyisically pulled Loki's boost off of the Hammer."

"True, this Spear began to work on Thor as soon as we entered this dimesion. But it's effects were minimul to start." said Dr. Blake and none of the other Avengers were affected. Loki came and boosted the effects, and spread it to the others, setting them to be the perfect operatives against this dimension's premeir superhero group. Then, during that attack, SOMEONE else broke into this dimension, and took control of us all."


"I see. said Odin. "We'll time for me to return to Asgard. I can feel this taint, even through the Stranger's aura." He handed the stick back to Dr. Blake, who tapped it twice and became Thor once more!"

"You art right, Father." said Thor. It is like a buzz in my brain, small but annoyly maddingly at the same time." By this time both team had awaked and gathered around.

"We are truly sorry for the damage we caused." said Cap, extending his arm out toward Superman. "We meant..."

"We know." smiled Superman. "I glad no one got hurt. On either side. Perhaps it would be prudent if you left with Odin though, we be on the lookout for Loki and whoever he is palling around with."

"Agreed." said Iron Man. "Still, if it's all the same, I have a collegue who versed in travelling to different dimensions. Allow me to put together info packs of Loki and his associates, and he will deliver them to you."

"An information exchange is a good idea." said Batman. "I' for one, want to know if you, or anyone on you team, see anything like this again. This happened here, but you were the tools. Like he was familiar with you..."

"As long as that flows both ways,"said Cap. Batman nodded, and it was decided. The Avengers followed Odin into the Stranger's portal, who would see them safely home.
