You can cancel any power that a character possesses provided it is not a non-optional power. Super Strength is not non-optional, so you can indeed cancel it... it just won't really do any good if you were hoping to make your character drop the object.

So what good WOULD canceling Super Strength do for you? Is there ANY strategic benefit to it?

No, not really. But the same can be said for Barrier, EE, CCE, or a host of other optional powers.


Just because something could be done in theory doesn't necessarily mean that there is any compelling reason to do that thing.

Well, if I mind-controlled your Super Strength piece and had him cancel his Super Strength as a free action, then I wouldn't have to worry about him picking up an object. Just sayin'.

Is canceling the same as countering?

No.

Countering is what Outwit does and it removes the possession of a power.

Canceling is something you do to your own figures so that you aren't using the power for that turn.

But the cancelled SS would return when my next turn begins.
Also, if I cancel the SS when you MC my fig, the SS will be un-canceled. This is because of the text of MC.

Sargon the Sorcerer can use Smoke Cloud. When he does, he may exchange any two non-immobile objects in the game with each other, as long as one of the objects occupies or is being carried by a characters who occupies the same square as one of the hindering terrain markers he placed. if a chosen object was carried, the replaced object is carried.

As long as neither object is immobile, he can swap any two objects. Your example would work just fine.
