I don't see Ultimate Thor as so broken. He's really a strong version of Thor. I remember, back in the old days, The Ultimates expansion set looked like Christmas for Marvel players! Previously, there was no impervious guys in the Marvel portion of the game (there was the Silver Surfer LE, I think, but not impervious at the first clix), none in Marvel to single-handedly defeat a Supes or a Despero. Then the guy appeared! He was so much cheaper than the KC Supes, he had enough AV and damage value to make the job done, and the long-time awaited, front-dial Imperviousness! Like Christmas I said. Everyone around used to play that guy in my area (including me!), and it was almost boring.
Still, his defense is very low (what did you expect? 19 ? The perfect cut? Yeah, for 186 pts... Go to Wonderland!) but this is... the price to pay just to pay it's price, which is very cheap for all the mess Thor can put in the enemy's ranks. Love the guy, happy to see so many years after Ultimates' release it's still playable!
My son and I had him and several other Avengers out on the table at our local Comic shop. We got so many coments about Ultimates Thor, "Look just sitting on the table over there like its nothing, Ultimates Thor" new Players dont respect him yet because his dial is not very colorful, we just love teaching people to respect Ultimates Thor.
charge made no sense for this guy considering he can see through stealth already... but man this piece was a beast... all that 5 damage! i had a blast with this guy and he won me many tournaments, i almost always fielded him in my 1000 point teams... i would team him up with KC Superman & Icons Vet Superman, beasts!
Lol, I played him this past weekend on a 1000pts team with the Worlds Finest and Ares,....and men you should'v seen them go after him first, I had Alias and Enduance on him, they must'v thot to go after him because of his low defense but he showed them, I specificlly used him to go after outwitters and stealthed figs, loved it when he went after Cosmis Spidy hit him for 5clik with a knockback into blocking right next to the Worlds Finest and he got smack again for 8 more cliks of dmg that was sweet candy for my team. So yeah Ultimate Thor gets 5Stars from me for sure for sure.
The first time i c this thor i think: "man... he's so broken!" but my thoughts have change a lot since them. Thor is not broken, he's not perfect. He's not THE Anti-Stealth piece. Sure, he have a great AV and DmgV but if you battle agaisnt a well prepared Stealth team (the major reason to field up this guy), Thor is gonna be surrounded by the enemies (enemies that probably will have Outwit) and his low defense are not going to help him. He is going to die but he's going to take someone down. Agree with KO Bossy. I mean... he's not bad but you just compare him to the KC Superman (c'mon people!)... Compare him to Ult Iron Man will be ok.
Finally got this figure and after a few games I've decided he's the best 2ndary attacker you can ask for.. but with modern age attack values and the abundance of tricks, this guy can't carry a team by himself anymore. Probably best in a 400~500 point matchup, where he can singlehandedly eliminate any fear of stealth, while pummeling your opponent from afar. Worth playing in golden with figures like Night Nurse or Jane Foster to heal that super-low defense, and toss in a bit of TK to really fly him around. One of the best stealth-busters in the game, but simply can't compete toe-to-toe with some more recent 180~200 point figures due to lack of indomitable and low defense numbers.
I have this guy, and let me tell you: He may have a low defense, but he more than makes up for it with 6 clicks of 5 damage, with a sky high attack. One of the best first strike capabilities n the game. He really shines in a 300-500 point game.
Outclassed by HoT Thor, but only because of a lack of Super Strength. If you are able to win map choice and can keep Ult. Thor out of enemy range, he's a beast.
Um, outclassed my a$$. (No offense intended, Spider-Ham. I really like your diagnosis of figs, in general!)) Thor has the exact same AV/damage values, has the same first strike capability, and is 40 points cheaper, AND, he has Imperv for 1 click. True, his defense is a mere 16, but Heroclix is all about offense. Believe me, i've learned the hard way. No thanks, I'll take Ult. Thor ANY day over HoT Thor. (Plus, Ult. Thor's sculpt is WAY better than HoT. What a dorky costume. Oh, and Ult. Thor is Anti-Stealth, too.) *Evil Grin*
my friend and i agreed on a series of games of which thor could inflict more damage on his x force team lets just say i traded hammer of thor thor and kept my ulitimates one great piece an excellent second attacker and a very good anit stealth piece and a great second attacker on higher pt teams.
I have to disagree with owlman, even though this Thor has great attack and damage, he is no match for the HoT Thor. This guy lacks Indomitable and a high defense, two things you really need in today's games. This Ultimate can probably get the first shot off, but will go down quick within two high damage blows. (ala someone like SI Hercules who ALSO has Indomitable and would charge flurry this piece with two objects making Ult Thor a grease stain on the map.). I find your overconfidence in this piece disturbing and not logical.
Hmmm. Well, first off, SI Hercules vs. Ult. Thor?? Uh...I'd kill him. End of story.
Now, HoT vs Ult. Thor, well, if it's mono e mono, yeah, I'd say HoT Thor wins about 7/10 times, give or take. Remember, Ult. Thor has Impervious, giving him about a 33% chance of avoiding the first attack, and they both have 10 range w/ 12 attack and 5 damage, not to mention RS. In a standard 300-400 point game, however, he is EASILY a match for HoT, with a couple feats/ some support. (Ghost Widow comes to mind.) Ult. Thor + Alias, (189) + Ghost Widow w/Protected, and Auto Regen + Loner (79) + V Lockjaw (38), + Karnak w/Protected (87) = 396. I'll take that action ANY day. (I'm still within the 10% feat limit, mind you: 8+5+3+8+12=36/40 points for feats.)
And seriously, dude; Hercules? Vs, Ult. Thor?? If you're talkin' one on one, you're nuts, man...
PS> You do have a good point though, Ult. Thor's defense is severely lacking. But I'd have to say, Heroclix is still ultimately about winning victory points, and the best defense is a good offense. Ult. Thor wins victory points for me; A LOT. But it's always a good Idea to have backup; Ghost Widow, anybody?...
