"We are not your enemies!" said Raven as she attempted to use her empathic powers to soothe the situation. "Please listen to us!"

"Only after I put you in irons, lady!" Cannonball was set to blast off-but Zatanna was faster.

"!MIH ELKCAHS, HTRAE" a hand reached up from the ground, and grabbed Sam's ankle. Another did the same for the other one.

"Listen to Warlock, Samfriend." the techno-organic alien came over to Sam. "If they meant us harm, would the team be dead instead of merely knocked out? Wouldn't the Sorceress have buried you alive instead of just restrain you?"

"I guess." said Sam. "But what are you'all doing here?"

"We came in search of answers." a flash of light, and the Phanthom Stranger and Dr. Fate entered. "And we have only found more questions."

"Then it is time for us to leave." said Dr. Fate, saying words which were old when Babylon was young. A portal opened. "Quickly!"

"You don't have to tell me twice." Warlock's body slumped forward, as if it was puppet strings that had just been cut. The rest of the Shadow pact followed behind Deadman.

"It was a simple assignment, Guthrie." said Luthor as he landed with Sinestro, Grundy Grood and Bizarro.

"And I did it, Luthor." he said, helping Mirage up. "They were here looking for information. The group I fought was just a diversion...you'all didn't have any visitors did you?"

"The comings and goings at the Hall of Doom are not the concern of one such as yourself." sniffed Sinestro.

"What's that?" said Karma. "A mutie?"

"A servant." answered Sinestro. "Look around me. There is a non-human, super pyshic gorilla, an imperfect clone of the most powerful hero in my universe, an undead zombie, and I'm from a corps of 3600 space cops from 3600 different worlds. Racism based on one little mutation in human DNA is the stupidest thing in the universe to me-and I've seen a lot."

"Yes, Sinestro." Luthor waved his hand. "This universe is quaint and all, but let's get back to the issue at hand: What information were they seeking?"

"I don't know. They didn't say." said Cannonball. "And Karma couldn't possess anyone to find out."

"Luthor." said Grood. "The children speak the truth. Fate and the Stranger split off and the others engaged them here. None answered why they were here."

"My ring shows they went back home via Dr. Fate's spells." said Sinestro. "But they covered their tracks well here. My ring isn't picking up where they went when they got here."

"Very well." said Luthor. "Take your team somewhere to recover, Guthrie." Luthor punched some numbers on his gauntlet/communicater. "Sent a full scientific Checkmate team to secure this area." "Acknowledged" came Amanda Waller's voice.

"They may know we are here, but they can't know how much." said Luthor. "No matter what!"
