I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
All right, this one's complicated.
Spike brought this one up a long time ago. He wanted it to be the Beatles vs Buck Owens. I told him I needed to use the original so he told me to do the Isley Brothers vs the Beatles then though I could tell he was disappointed to leave Buck Owens out.
I had used the Isley's recently so I held back to save for later. Then I forgot about it and used the Isley's vs Todd Rundgren so I had to sit on it even longer.
Now when I'm ready to use it I find out the Isley's weren't the original.
I could have done this a while ago. But if I hadn't done that, I probably wouldn't have included Buck Owens the way Spike wanted.

Buck Owens - don't get me wrong - I'm a fan, really, but they didn't do themselves any favors with that particular cover.
May all your hits be crits!

The original is the Top Notes. I only provided The Isley's link because of the convoluted way I ended up doing this. Spike wanted Buck vs the Beatles so the Isley's got left out.

Well this was kind of surreal. I'd never heard the Top Notes version. It was almost another song entirely. Had the Isley Bros been in it, I'd likely have given them top billing. As they weren't:
Beatles
Top Notes
Buck Owens - sure they were just goofing around, but still, brrrr.
1st Beatles
2nd Top Notes
3rd any other version but not Buck Owens.
Sorry, but I had to turn off that Suck Owens version after the first verse. There's bad and then there was that horribleness. Sorry RE, but that Buck Owens version made me throw up a little in my mouth.
Holy Crow, every time I think of this song, I associate it with the Isley Bros, who, in turn, I associate with memories of my very first in-person R 'n R show -- a pre-Beatles extravaganza hosted by radio dj Murray the K, with a dozen or so "teen idol" performers of the period (to give you an idea, Bobby Vee was the headliner and Jan & Dean sang "Heart and Soul"). But it was the Isleys who brought down the house.
That said...
First time I've heard the original here. I'd always thought the Isley Bros. did T&S first --- not unlike the way many folks my age who were there when "The Twist" was the latest dance craze think that Chubby Checker did it first.
So, it was interesting to hear the "true" original by the Top Notes along with the Buck Owens version --- one that probably should be received as a humorously intended send-up. Regarding the latter platter,I wouldn't buy it, but at least -- unlike VG9 -- I didn't get the urge to toss my cookies. So, this has expanded my musical horizons.
But that said...
John Lennon gave his all in the one recording session take that resulted in The Beatles' version.
And THAT said...
The Beatles
Top Notes
Buck Owens
...but I'll still think of the Isley Bros. whenever somebody mentions the song title.
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
Buck sleeps eternally just yards from where my mother does the same. As such, I must respectfully abstain this round.
Wait a minute! This is the one you suggested! Oh well. I vote for the Beatles. It's the only one I'd heard until now.

I cannot in good conscious vote against Buck Owens ever, so I will abstain........

Uh...guys? With all due respect, this isn't a community board meeting where you might abstain from voting on a zoning variance because the applicant is in your Friday night poker group.
Somebody went to some trouble to put this together for voting purposes.
Just sayin'.
