Sorry, but the Plant/Krauss covers have just left me flat, overall.

The original is powerful.

I prefer the original by Townes Van Zandt.

Wow, this Krauss/Plant album has come up a lot in these, and its certainly gotten my share of votes when it has. There's some wonderful stuff on it. You see the "but" coming, don't you?

The stark, bare Townes Van Zandt version really just suits the mood of this song better. The cover was just too overdone.

Ahem. That is to say...I love them both. Not equally, you understand, but I love them both according to my mood du jour and you know how that goes: sometimes you want the Tortellini en Brodo from the menu, sometimes you prefer the French Onion in a crock.

That said...I can't believe I'm gonna vote against...(grumble, grumble)...but since I can only pick one, I guess I have to go with...

I've done Plant/Krauss three times so far. i'm sure I'll dip into Raising Sand a few more times.

I've done Townes Van Zandt at least three times also and I have no doubt he'll be showing up again, including a match against Emmylou who probably has the record for these since I started them.

I like them both about evenly. I can see the reasons why you all prefer the original but I love the cover too so I'll give a lonely vote to Plant/Krauss.

I'll throw a vote for Townes down.
