Since this post got buried on page 6 of the original Austin comment and has tons of information about what Jerome said about WizKids in general, I thought I'd post here as well.
I will add a few things from the Q&A last night. Jerome was pretty cagey on what was coming next however he did say:
WizKids is being approached by other Video Game producers to produce clixs based on their games (no specifics). Companies are coming to them and not vice-versa. A good place to be as a game manufacturer.
The Oreo bases will be in production for clixs for the 2012 releases and they are NICE! I particularly like the fact that you can HEAR it being clicked so no short clicking anymore!
Captain America Gravity feeds will be available in LCBS.
Street Fighter Clixs will be the only starter for 2011.
There "may" be removable objects in Superman.
Gears of War, Halo clix, and LOTR clix will be fully compatible with Heroclixs but will also have special rules that allow them to be played as stand-alone games.
Fast Forces Packs will now all come with one-sheet explanations of how to play the games.
WizKids Design department is very concerned about the Meta game and about keyword assignments.
Based on observation, all the Street Fighter starter guys are 50 points each and appear to be the 'good guy' versions of the characters.
WizKids has never had closer relationships with Marvel and DC as they do now.
Just because NECA has the license to produce action figures or other products for things like TMNT, they don't necessarily have permission/licensing to produce games/toys. They are different licensing agreements and often mean trying to negotiate against existing licensing agreements with companies like Hasbro.
While they would love to do more Indy clixs, the licensing negotiations (due to having to negotiation with so many different companies) makes this difficult and not a high priority for them right now.
Don't look for Spawn clixs anytime soon. Todd McFarlane wants his characters to all be uber-powerful in clixs form and would really skew gameplay.
Jerome firmly believes that any objects that are on the board that influence game play should be 3-D objects of some sort, even pogs.
There will be an overarching theme to the early-2012 Marvel sets that 'might' be the Infinity Guantlet (he was WAAAY cagey about that one).
He encourages people to discuss here on the Realms figures and mechanics that they like. The Design department pays attention to us closely.
They are working EXTREMELY close with DC about the reboots and have had conversations directly with Johns and Lee recently about what's coming out. They know stuff well in advance.
The Target & TRU exclusivity deals were driven by Marvel. WizKids was negotiating having them available in comic shops from the beginning and the news that they would be available in LCBS was delayed due to legal wrangling but it was NOT a reaction to players. It was the intention all along and it just took longer to hammer out the specifics than expected.
They are very excited about the new Superman Robot Buy It By The Brick program and are going to very closely monitor the success of that program.
There will be a removable component to the Weapon X figure in the tank.
They have increased their production runs by 20% from set to set since they started the reboot.
Dynamic poses - they were also disappointed with the dynamic poses (or lack thereof) in DC75th. All of GSXM sculpts were done digitally and that gives them much more flexibility to add a dynamic element to them before molds and sample casts are made. Changes can now happen well before they commit to producing a figure. All the sculpts from here out will be digital based.
They are getting size definitions from Marvel and DC about how tall/big figures should be so the scaling issues in the sculpts will be getting smoother. Especially now that they are doing things digitally and can make these changes relatively easily.
The next big improvement they are working on is overall painting of figures.
3-D objects are not necessarily produced in the same factory as clixs. This will severely limit their ability to add 3-D objects directly into booster packs. Look for them to remain special objects in the OP kits instead (although you may see them in higher numbers in the OP kits - like Foom Fingers).
They are committed to keeping costs down as low as possible and realize that we have limited spending power. They want to keep the game, at its base level, affordable.
Jerome confirmed that they only have rights to produce games from the Watchmen movie so they can't make a full run of everyone.
Do not expect clixs with movable parts (like the Bat Sentry) as these fall into gray areas between games and toys and cause all kinds of legal hassles with their licensing.
The Mindless Ones rock and were one of the few clixs that made it out of playtesting with their original design intact. The only thing that changed about them was the addition of the Black Hole Suns keyword.
They are very close to having organized play guidelines and tournament reporting software in place. It won't be as cumbersome as it used to be and they are working hard to streamline things to make it reasonable for judges.
The commitment of WizKids to its fanbase is extremely high and they pay EXTREMELY close attention to what gets said on the Realms and Facebook. It would be nice if people wrote more about things that they think work well so that Design can take that feedback and expand on things.
That's about it. I will say that the Star Trek game looks great and one of the store managers at the Lair who is a Star Trek maven was super excited about the game, the pieces, and the gameplay concept.
It was very late when Jerome left and he was extremely generous with his time and his openness to talk about what he could about coming up sets. I know we talked about more stuff that that but, like I said, it was late.
I was not a big Street Fighter fan but the sculpts look pretty amazing and the point cost on the clixs is nice for new players to build teams off of. The gravity feeds for Gears of War and Captain America also looked great. I can see people buying lots of these feeds to try and get the 25 point SHIELD Agent/Robots. Smart move on WizKids part.
Team Mobilehorror were the proud purveyors of Print & Play from pre-NECA 2008 to 2015. A good ride while it lasted. Keep rollin' 8s .
Closing this thread as the other thread is doing just fine. Its worth the read folks. Lots of good info on upcoming sets and the inner workings of WizKids.
