Ok. So let's say Nightcrawler uses his Teleportation Evacuation power and hits the unique Dr. Manhattan.
Nightcrawler's power reads: Teleportation Evacuation -- Nightcrawler can use Hypersonic Speed, Stealth and the Carry ability. When Nightcrawler uses Hypersonic Speed, a target hit by a close combat attack may be placed adjacent to Nightcrawler after the power action resolves.
Dr. Manhattan's power reads: That Didn't Kill Osterman...-- Dr. Manhattan can use Impervious, but on a roll of 3-4 , instead of the normal effect, you may choose to reduce the damage dealt to 0 and place Dr. Manhattan in your starting area.
So my impression is that if Dr. M had this power when hit, and he rolled a 3-4, it would go like this:
1. Dr. M rolls a 3 and opts to use the special power.
2. Power immediately triggers reducing damage to 0.
3. Second part of power triggers allowing you to place Dr. M in the starting area.
4. Nightcrawler finishes the rest of his Hypersonic movement (if any is remaining).
5. Nightcrawler's power triggers placing Dr. M adjacent to him.
It seems really odd but the wording of the powers and some weird timing seems to make this the proper result.
When I came on board as RA I brought with me a mission to meet the intent of a power/ability and a firm distaste for exploits or loopholes that circumvented the intention of a rule. That's where the Rules team comes in.
