Despite the hate BatB seems to get around here, it had quite a few really good figures. Talia (Uncommon), Robin, Mademoiselle Marie, Jason Blood/Etrigan, Extant, Black Flash, Martian Manhunter, all of the amazon generics, Holiday Killer, Cave Carson, Metallo just to name a few, and none of those are even the SRs!
Amazon
Atom and Hawkman
Superman
Wonder Woman
Double Team Talia
Cave Carson
Jason Blood/Etrigan
Metallo
Martian Manhunter
Kid Zoom
Mr. Miracle and Oberon
Shazam and Black Adam
I'm not a fan of duos or AEs, do I'm not a big fan of BatB (it's not a terrible set, but it's very mediocre IMO). However, it's got a few real gems, and the list above is pretty good. I'd add Robin to the list (the one that can move opposing pieces...that is a beefy ability!), as well as Wizard Shazam and Mslle. Marie. I'd probably remove Mr. Miracle/Oberon and Atom/Hawkman from my personal list of must-haves, but there is no denying the awesomeness of Blazam, so that duo stays on the list!
So my list of BatB must-haves:
Amazon
Superman
Wonder Woman
Double Team Talia
Cave Carson
Jason Blood/Etrigan
Metallo
Martian Manhunter
Kid Zoom
Shazam and Black Adam
Wizard Shazam
Mslle. Marie
Robin
Phillipus (great for Amazon theme teams)
The biggest advantage BatB has over other sets (again, IMO) is that there is only one SR that I'd consider on such a list, making it very easy to get all the top BatB pieces.
The chases aren't bad (I have 3 of the 4), but they're not worth getting if you aren't into the Black Lanterns, IMO.
CarlosMucha: that is like be running in a Olimpic race competition just one step to get the gold and then a Giant children place a mirror in your side and you discover what you are really a hamster over a whell and the gold is just a slice of chess. Avatar Summoning: Original GotG, Melter, Whiplash
It's occasionally a tricky piece to field, but I love the Flash & Green Lantern duo figure. I've seen it get smashed to pieces within a few turns, but I've also seen it completely turn a game around in really weird and entertaining ways.
Oh man, we got a Negative Man and a Jimmy Olsen? Now I need to think of a new signature after all these years!
I play JLI a lot, so BatB was a fantastic set for me. Fire and Ice and Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are both great pieces, for different reasons. F&I are just killers, with great attacks, and some spiffy powers like poison Barriers and Psychic Blast. B&B are less out and out nasty, but team them up with F&I for a shared theme or duo figure +1 to attacks, Outwit, Perplex... and there's still plenty of points left over for a tie up piece or secondary attacker. Great combo.

Agreed. Haven't used Fire & Ice successfully yet, but "Blue & Gold" are ideal for JLI teams, especially with the DC 75 Guy Gardner. Don't forget that Blue & Gold have an 8 range either.

It's really funny that you brought this up. Only because there are seriously so many people that thought the BATB was the worst set since about fantastic forces. I firmly believe that it was a fantastic set that focused on team ups, and did a great job showcasing them.

I'm not a power gamer, so my favorites from the set may not be the big game winners. Still,

(Attack) Improvise: Whenever Mademoiselle Marie KOs an opposing character, put an improvise token on her character card if she doesn't have one already. If an attack roll made by her misses, but is not a critical miss, you may remove an improvise token to automatically hit instead.
...is like a DC version of Winter Soldier in several respects.

(Attack) Timeline Push: Kid Zoom can use Incapacitate. He can use it normally, or he can use its close combat attack as a free action instead of a close combat attack while using Hypersonic Speed.
(Damage) Stop! : (non-optional) Other characters can't use Hypersonic Speed.
...can be fun (I especially like the Incap option during the HSS attack) though he may need a little assist from a friendly Perplexer or two.

(Special) Trait: Martian Manhunter can use Shape Change and Phasing/Teleport.
(Damage) Telepathic Invisibility : Once at the beginning of your turn, you may choose close combat attack or ranged combat attack. Martian Manhunter modifies his defense by +3 against the chosen type of attack until the beginning of your next turn.

(Special) Trait: Power Girl can use Super Strength.
(Damage) Eyes Up Here, Soldier : Power Girl can use Exploit Weakness, but cannot use it on a character that can use Willpower or Indomitable or a character that possesses the Robot keyword.
...remember that she received an errata declaring she has a Trait that grants her Super Strength over her dial.
Good luck with the case pulls!
Power girl's a bit top heavy on her dial(seriously, no pun intended). She gets a good power set, but it's an expensive cost if she can't hit. Otherwise, MM is the best fig in the set. He's the perfect fit for a power set, he's strong fast, and even buys you lunch on occasion.

Metallo is the sleeper of the set. He was so much the sleeper that people didn't actually go to attack him whenever he'd be brought out, just letting him start blasting the other team.
The sr's you'll want are Blazam (black adam / shazam), gl/ga, batman/ green arrow, hawkman/ atom, and lex luthor/ brainiac. The kal l chase just doesn't have enough protection to be really good, but he's a fun character to play, and a beast when it comes to damage output, but that's mostly on paper.
And kid zoom. For whatever reason, you'll never get rid of him. He works even when you're not playing the game. That's how good he is.
Holiday Killer, Holiday Killer, Holiday Killer. Fantastic piece for a fantastic price. Also, he really helps Batman enemy teams with his 11 attack on the second click.
Also, Cave Carson. Transporting with debris is fun.
Favorite Super Rare? Hrmmm, I really like my Black Adam/Shazam, but I enjoy Mister Miracle and Oberon the most. Damn good piece.
Cave Carson has become remarkably good now that Quake damage is locked at 2. An excellent filler piece for Scientist teams who can carry people around and create his own hindering terrain.
Team Mobilehorror were the proud purveyors of Print & Play from pre-NECA 2008 to 2015. A good ride while it lasted. Keep rollin' 8s .
Thanks everyone for the excellent commentary! My case arrived today, and here's what I pulled:
Chase:
Black Hand
Super Rares:
Shazam!/Black Adam
Green Lantern/Flash
Green Lantern/Green Arrow
Superman/Flash
Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy
Fire & Ice
...and of course the usual complete set of rares, uncommons, and commons!
Overall, I am pleased with this set. I ended up getting a chase (Black Hand, but was secretly hoping for Kal-L), but three of the SR's came with a piece broken. I guess that's what good ol' super glue is here for! Lol.
I am pretty stoked to throw together a JLA team with some of these eventually. May even do a Superman Enemy team with some of these great villian figures as well!
Anyways, got quite a few Rare doubles if anyone wanted to talk trade! I am mainly looking for rares from DC 75th if any of you out there are interested! Let me know!
