Looking for a way to handle Cosmic Spider-Man? Mastermind with Mental Shields and a Violet Lantern. Place the lantern, drop MM on top of it and get to work. You'll have more fun killing off his teammates than the poor guy who spent 319 points to field him. A board full of Brotherhood pieces to perplex (Mystique), TK (Unus, Magneto), prob (Destiny, Scarlet.) It was a very lopsided game. :)
why more people don't run this piece is beyond me, he destroys every time i bring him out. stealth with mind control or incap (2 target) with a 12, thats just nasty, and if they get a chance to swing at him, supersenses, if it fails, mastermind to some fodder. never leave home without mental shields, worth the investment on him. plus he has outwit, pretty nasty piece, one of my favorites in the game
He's one that just tears up the field whenever I use him. I don't use him as much anymore simply because he's almost too easy to use. But probably my favorite piece from MnM! Soooo glad to have him!

Since when can you use Super Senses to avoid the Damage transferred via the power Master Mind? Super Senses lets you avoid an Attack, not reduce the Damage to 0 (like Impervious does). That's why Super Senses works against Mind Control and Incap while Impervious does not. And why Super Senses does nothing against Poison while Impervious trumps it.
Vulture: I'll drop you from the sky and watch you drop like a rag doll! Spider-Man: And this'll be when? After Ock rips me limb from limb? Or after Venom eats my brains? Oh, I almost forgot; he also has dibs on my spleen...

I think what Speckled Jim was trying to say is that when Mastermind is attacked his SP lets him use his own Super Senses first. THEN, he could MM the damage to Unus who could then potentially avoid damage due to his Impervious.
I recently brought him and Black King out again because of the new Hellfire Club pieces. Pairing him with Harry Leland worked out nicely to avoid any surprise Charge or HS attacks. I made a big mistake not adding Mental Shields when going up against HoT Thor. That would have kept him usable for a few more turns for sure.
No, the order he listed the powers in indicates: Mastermind (figure) tries to Super Sense the Attack, then uses the power Mastermind to shunt the Damage to Unus. Unus then tries to avoid the Damage via his own Super Sesnes (which doesn't work), followed by rolling for Impervious (which would work). If he's merely miscommunicating the order of the powers, that's one thing, but it really looks like he's trying to Super Sense Masterminded Damage (I mean, he lists Super Senses twice)...

aside from Prof X, this is my fave MC piece. just love this guy and he has never steered me wrong. always a threat and so fun to play if you like using MC.
Mastermind is most effective when he has a taxi to get him out of base contact, since your opponent is going to base him any way they can. When based, Mastermind has two choices: either Mind Control the aggressor to move away (a bit of a timewaste unless they have move & attack abilities), or Incap them (also a waste, since they will recover before he does). Mastermind's effectiveness is tied to him being able to act from afar. Pick a taxi with some fight in them or at least a good getaway power (Phasing) who can double as Mastermind fodder.
This is a very brutal piece under the right circumstances, but remember - games are won by dealing damage, and all of Mastermind's methods are indirect or low-damage until he is injured and gets more straightforward with Psy Blast. You have to have a plan with this dude.

Ahhhh O.K. I goofed on Unus Super sensing out of damage transfered via mastermind (the power). I was literally thinking about this yesterday at work and came to the same conclusion HAHA. So my apoligies on that. Still Masterminds (the character) super senses then Unus Impervious roll to avoid taking damage are pretty good odds :)....... And more apoligies :)
