I was just wondering if you slap Sidekick on a character with the Defend ability, do they get to replace their defense value with other characters DV?
Basically, I was going to sidekick Umbra to KC GL. KC GL has a 20DV, Umbra has a 17 DV with Defend, but I'm guessing her DV is only a 20 for attacks targeting her, and it's not replacing the value, so therefore, I don't believe you could use Defend with it.

Just lmk for sure, thanks!
It does replace her DV, so she could theoretically share the 20 DV, but Sidekick only replaces her DV when Umbra herself is the target of an attack:
SIDEKICK
Cost: 10
Choose two characters: The first character must have a point value at least twice that of the second character. The two characters must be adjacent in order to use this feat. Neither character may carry the other.
(Optional) The second character uses the first character’s unmodified defense value instead of its own when it is attacked by an opposing character.
This is different from Defend, which replaces DVs anytime a character is attacked, whether the character with Defend is actually a target or not.
Defend
Any friendly adjacent character can replace its defense value with this character’s unmodified defense value (including a replacement defense value).
See? No specification there, so going by the normal replacement value rules, this power would kick in anytime the combat value it is replacing (Defense) would be needed, no matter who is actually using the DV.
So the end result is that Umbra could share the 20 DV she get's from GL, but she would have to be part of the attack that you're hoping to avoid with the high DV. Which is possible: multi-target ranged attack, a Quake attack, etc. It just isn't going to happen as frequently as you might hope.

Alright, well that's cool. So let's say someone targeted her with an attack because say I stick her out front. Let's say that afterwards, during the same turn, someone targets another character adjacent to her. Is that value replaced for the whole turn? Or ONLY during the attack?

Replacement values, like modifiers, only last as long as the triggering requirement is met. If Umbra is not being attacked, then she does not have her DV replaced.
What if said target has defend and it is targeted by energy explosion? (Or multi-target) I imagine the sidekick gets the 20 defense and shares with all adjacent characters, right?

So for purposes of Energy Explosion where she is not the target of the attack, but is adjacent to a target of the attack, are you saying she can or cannot share her Sidekick replaced defense value with the target of the attack?

theyre both being affected by the attack so yes i believe she can
Hold'em up against the wall,
Now they're all of no use to you.
God, it's time for the curing.

Indeed. Nowhere does the word "target" actually appear in the Sidekick description.

not exactly the same question, but i write here since it's about the sidekick feat too :
My character cost 71 pts, and i want to sidekick him to a 158 pts character... (FF wolverine, MM colossus). Is it possible ? (i believe yes)
When do my opponent scores the 10 pts from the feat ? when he kills Wolverine, Colossus, or both ?
If a defend piece (say Armor) is next to Colossus, can Wolverine use the replaced defense ? (or the original one from Colossus, ignoring armor's defend power)
Are the "cost" of the figures still 71 and 158, or are they considered to be changed by the feats that are assigned to them ?

Is 71 less than half of 158?

The feat is assigned to both figures, so both need to be KOed for points to be scored.

Yes, it is legal to daisy chain defense values.

The cost of the figure is printed on the base. It doesn't change.

It is a game effect used by a character within the blast range, so it gets ignored just like pretty much everything else.
