So my local venue has a big-scale (1000 pts) game next week with a color theme (either colored corps groups, or you can make it so your figures are all predominantly featuring a color). I was tempted to finally bust out all the Black Lanterns, but... yeah, no. Much as I love these figures, I never can bring myself to play them except for Maxwell Lord and Black Hand because they're worth the points to fit onto smaller teams. I'd much rather play an army of my Green Lantern and/or Sinestro Corps figures.

However.

I started to wonder.

Does anyone here ever play Black Lanterns? Especially the higher-cost ones? I'm genuinely curious about when might be a good time to put them on a team and what other figures they work well with.

They work well with Successful Dirk Anger and a swarm of (Halo) Infected Marines on the board with Scar as a Marshal. At that point Scar can redirect steal energy to anyone.

That Kal-L can be devastating, especially if you have a Black Lantern object.

Martian Manhunter is also decent.

Really the biggest dud of the Black Lanterns, IMHO, is Nekron. I've never used nor plan to use Scar (though with Skaar now in Heroclix, they could make a hilarious odd couple). Black Lanterns would be fun to run if you've got them, and if I were playing at that venue, I'd bring White Lanterns for a showdown.

While I never play them, Kal-L is always a big threat on the board.

Big games are definitely the best time to play them... that's when there's max opportunity to make the KO healing work (multi-player games are great)

It's a fun team...you should play them
